Let me set the scene. I have a 3-4 inch sand bed in my tank. Im cleaning algae and moving stuff around. Then out of nowhere sand comes flying half way up the tank and a damsel skeleton gets shot out of the sand bed. I dont have anything that eats fish in my tank. Im thinking hitchhiker. Any ideas on the "monster".

i am wondering if the damsels carcass just got pulled under a rock our out of site by some hungry crabs that were doing their jobs, and moving stuff around just allowed you to see it for the first time.

if it is a predator, I would think mantis, and you would have more fatalities by now I expect.

I know it wasnt under a rock cause it shot up in the water along with sand and I was moving a coral not a rock, so it didnt pop out from under a rock. I hate to think its a mantis. Should I look for it or wait till it comes out on its own? I hate to have to move about 100 pounds of rock to find it.

like I said, if it's a mantis, you would probably have suffered more fatalities by now...

I am not sure you have anything to worry about, whether or not you start looking is up to you. since you believe it to be a sand bed predator, that would involve stirring up a lot of stuff...

even if it was in the sand bed I am not convinced it wasn't something benigin that got it down there and was just taking care of a carcass.
