View Full Version : What would be the best return pump?

I just replumbed my system, put in a new sump and cleaned my pump (first time in over a year). Now I think I have to much turnover in my system. I have a 90 gallon tank, the new sump holds about 15 gallons and the separate fuge holds about 10 gallons. My return pump is currently a mag 12. I did have the return split to also feed my fuge but now I have the drain from my tank split to feed the sump and the fuge. The return is pretty much a straight shot from the pump to the tank and the height is aroung 5 feet.

Would an Eheim 1260 be enough turnover, or would I need to go with the 1262?

Thanks,
Kevin

A 1260 will be plenty. I know that the ratings don't report it this way, but in my personal (and completely non-scientific) experience the 1262 will give you more flow than the mag 12.

I prefer external pumps, Panworld is great, durable, quiet, and relatively cheap.

Also, look at the ReefFlo Dart. You can run your sump, protien skimmer and an external loop with this one pump. Very quiet and energy efficient.

One of the reasons I was looking at the Eheims is because I could run them internal or external. I think the Dart would be way to much for my tank. I don't have a closed loop and the skimmer has it's own needle wheel pump. Thanks for the replies.

TXKev you live in ATX, if you ever want to stop by I'll show my 1262 in action on my 75. Or my 1260 in action on my 125. They are amazingly quiet.

Thanks for the offer Mike, I may have to take you up on that sometime.

By the way, I saw in one of your posts on RC that you got hit while riding your bike the other day? How are you doing from that? Did you have any injuries? How was the bike? Did it receive any injuries? How about the person that hit you? Did you cause them any injuries? I had someone pull out in front of my over the summer and had to drop my bike to avoid him. When I got off the ground, it was all I could do to keep from beating the crap out of them.

Thanks,
Kevin
