Yeah, I know! I made an offer for the Barb...but never heard anything until the last post that they were sold. Hopefully, they went to a great home.

I went by Aquatech the other day. They had a huge reidi and several little kellogi for $30 each! The Reidi was WC, but they said the others were CB. There was one little yellow/orange guy that I really liked. I had to get out of the store quickly before grabbing up another one!

My tank will eventually have 3-4 pairs of horses. I definitely want erectus and barbs, but what are your favorites? Not sure how many types I want to do. I have seen a lot of kellogi lately, do you know much about them?

Do you have/would you like a bunch of different macro algae in your tank? I am planning on having a large assortment. Maybe we could trade frags eventually...

I offer her what she asked, but .... you know the rest

how big was the horse in Aquatech?

the kellogis are suppost to be the biggest Up to 12", but I read that the ones from vietnam are a hybrid kind, not true kellogies, and they dont ahve a good survival rate, and the are not true CB, they are captive kept, they use sea pens to hold them, so basically they are wild in captivity

thats why they are so cheap

they are all my fav. they are just too cool

are you going to try pipes with the horses?

my whole tank is over grown with algae culerpra, mexican and lots of hair algae, yeah I know, but it hides alots of pods, and that is a good thing

The reidi (WC) was full grown (around 6" I guess). It was a beautiful yellow color ($30!!). The Kellogi were around 2 1/2" I guess (also $30). Most of those were black (at the moment anyway). One had some silver on the front and one was an orange-y yellow. I think they may be feeding them straight live brine. I didn't get a chance to ask if they were enriched or not.

Hmmm...makes me wonder about my erectus. They say she is captive bred. I think they get her straight from the breeder which is why she was so inexpensive ($45). She is from Aquadome...they said they will probably get some more erectus in the next couple of weeks.

I'll have to ask more questions about the Kellogi...whether tank raised or captive bred.

Austin Aquariums may be getting some seahorses in in the next few weeks too. I have my name on a call list at both AA and AD. I want to be the first over there to see if there is one with cirri! I'll keep you updated.

The Kellogi are your favorite?

no really, but a foot tall horse, now that is nice :)

the explanation about why she is so cheap, dont hold water, it takes ALOT of effort and money to raise horses, so there is something they are not saying or something they have not been told

either way cirri is super cool, I want some :)

also I prefer to buy bigger horses, they ahve a better survival rate

Thought I'd chime in because my wife is bugging me to get horses, but I'm not sure about the work invloved in caring for them. Although I must admit they are gorgeous. I saw some horses at aquatech (breeding pair) I believe were kellogi. Awsome yellow color. These were captive bred I believe because they were not $30 but $250 for the pair. They had to be at least 10" long beautiful fish. Also had some cool pipefish for sale as well. They are having a sale this weekend 10% off of saltwater.

I think Aquatech is going to have a run on seahorses!... Just so long as they re-stock for my december trip I'll be a happy camper!

Take Anderson Lane/Spicewood Springs Exit off of Loop 1 (Mopac) headed north. Turn right on Anderson. Turn left on Burnet. Aquatek is on your right (has a blue roof). If you make a trip over there, give me a pm. I may be able to meet you. (By the way, it is right around the corner from Austin Aquariums, too.)

The babies are super challenging, I hear. Almost like having a new human baby. Late night feedings, cleaning the tank every day, keeping the food alive and flowing.

The other thing is that they sound super expensive and difficult to deal with when the fall ill. There is a load of medicines that are recommended one have on hand if you decide to keep them.

So far, I have just been feeding mine twice a day like my other fish.

BTW... I electrocuted us both yesterday. Apparently, the little filter I had on the tank got an electrical leak. When I stuck my hand in to feed her, I got quite a little zap. I unplugged it quickly and moved her over a little to see if she was ok. She went to the corner and twitched for a little while. She seems to be fine now, but I was definitely in a panic. I feel so bad that she had to live with that! It's just a 10 gal tank, so I imagine the entire thing was a rather strong shock. In a larger tank, she may have been able to get to a part with at least a milder shock. :( Hopefully, it did not go on very long. That morning everything was fine.
