Drain the tank...j.k.
Try to lure him into a jar or cup that you can raise quickly. Patience is a must.

It makes all the difference in the world to use 2 people with 2 nets. My hubby is becoming quite adept at it! ;) I spent a couple of hours mildly swearing over a tank with a soaked shirt and prune hands before I finally gave in to my husband's offer of help. Now, I just go straight to him and we get those fishies out within 20 minutes!

OK, this is the method I got from Ace. Just pop open a beer, and start chasing. Not with any intensity, just keep bothering the fish. Don't let it rest. Forget about the nets, just use your hands. After about 30-60 minutes, it will just plain give up. You can actually TOUCH the fish. Then you can easily net it out.

Where are you? If you are in Austin, I can lend you a hand--can't today but can tomorrow.

I just caught him a few minutes ago. I made the coke bottle trap and put some tasty food in there. He went straight for it! :D

That's how I've done it in the past. Two liter bottle, cut off bottom, with cap on weight down the top and put in fish food and wate. I had to try a few times before getting the net close enough to the bottle without the fish I was getting out bolting first.
