I have a new Regal Blue Tang :D :D I could not be happier. He had a little bit of "off" coloration when we first got him home, but he blued up right away, and seems happy, or at least curious.

He immediately tested (tasted) my hair algae rock, then a calerpa (sp) strand. I place a nori sheet (small) in the tank, but as of this writing, he has yet to touch it. I am assuming for the moment that his interest in food is a good sign so soon after the acclimation process.

Wish me luck, folks. I am well on my way toward a "Finding Nemo" tank. Now, if I could just find a sea turtle........ :wacko

My regal would not touch a nori sheet for about a month, but he eventually came around. I used Formula 2 flake and Emerald Entree frozen food in the interim to make sure he was getting sufficient algae intake. He would just swarm around while the other fish were eating at the sheet and pick up any small pieces that floated away, but he just recently started to eat from the sheet himself.

Murky waters, thank you.

Enigma13, It has been a few days now, and I must admit that I have yet to WITNESS him eating anything. He hangs out with the chromis', and the clowns a lot more, but caloric intake is something I still cannot attest to. He hides a lot in my rock whenever I approach or if he hears the slightest noise. The cromis' jerky swimming pattern frightens him into hiding, also.

Regals can be very shy & nervous....are susceptible to ich...and they like to slip between 2 rocks and hide. Be patient...My Regal was the size of a 50 cent piece when I got him about 4 yrs. ago - he thought he was a clown cause he hung out with my pair of blk/wht ocellaris where he felt safe. Kinda funny...he would always stay inbetween them wherever they went...till he tried to follow them into an anemone and his face got stung...since then he's been on his own! haha Still have him and he's a beauty. He has turned a bit aggressive tho - guess he thinks its his tank - taken out 2 Naso Tangs & 2 Yellow Tangs in the last 2 yrs. Which is rare in the case of a Regal...they seem to be the most docile.

Anyway...he's prob coming out & eating when you're not around.

Confirmed! I just saw it eating. I am feeding Ocean Nutrition Seaweed Select Green Marine Algae. I couldn't be happier.

Update....

ICH SUCKS!!!! :angry My fish looks like a darned teenager, what with all of the little dots.

I bought a cleaner shrimp, and will give it a couple of days, and then I am moving to more aggressive means of treatment. And holy crap...these fish are SO timid. The books descriptions sometimes just don't go far enough in educating you.

Still happy, overall. I think it is neat to watch how aggressively they attack an algae sheet. It doesn't eat a whole lot at once, but it is eating flake, etc. also.

Does anyone else have one that eats live algae in the tank? What types? I have a type of caulerpa (sp) that it nibbles on every now and them, and a rock covered with fine straight strand algae. It nips at that stuff, too.

Good luck on the Ich....tangs are prone to the worm...

just keep feeding them and the ick should start to go away after a while.

be sure to watch him though, even after the ich is gone. i had a fish die recently and he had gotten over ich 2 weeks prior. no signs or anything, just one morning, i woke up to my clean up crew eating something on the sandbed which turned out to be the fish :(

Keep it fat, and the ich will take care of itself. They are like dogs with a bone!
