i built a table to match our living room furniture, only it has a window in the top and a 50 gallong clam tank inside. moved all the clams over from the display tank last night. i still need to add the t5's when the bulbs come in, this is with a 175 watt MH SE hamilton 14k light.

While you were getting those clams out of the main tank, you didn't have anything "break" off, did you? Once again, You amaze me. A very Superb Job! Come on, I know something broke off? ;) :D

Wow I do not know how I missed this thread. Very nice Ace. Pretty ingenious. So how well does the light work inside the stand? How close is it to the water level?

the MH bulb is about 1" from the surface of the water. the clams seem really happy, so i guess the lighting is working out ok.

I gave him that orange ricordia about a month ago. He brought some bulbs back from a meeting for me, it was the least I could do. I have about 60 more right now, and they are beautiful. Ace's clam tank is friggin awesome............

yeah, they look a little better. still learning. i have the gimp, but i dont like to mess with the pics on the computer other than resize - doesnt seem honest :) i am processing these pics on my desktop which now has 1 gig of ram and a new 160 gig hard drive just for pics, so i shouldnt run into memory issues for a while.

Do clams require very little in terms of flow? I ask this because the tank glass is so clean, and you can see them readily from the top without getting distortion from the water movement.

hobogato
Tue, 10th Apr 2007, 04:18 PM
mine seem to enjoy this lower flow environment more than the main tank. the turnover in the clam tank is about 10X per hour, i just have the water coming in very close to the bottom and a ver long overflow to minimize surface distortion.

well, as some of you know, we have made many changes around here lately as far as the tanks go. all of the lps in this and the 240 attached to it have been moved to christy's 180. this has allowed me to get the two tanks very clean and rearranged. i will soon be posting update pics of the 240, but i wanted to mention the new direction for the clam tank. since all of the fish from it were also moved to christy's tank, i have been trying to figure out what i could put in to replace them. i just ordered two 3 month old cuttle fish. they are captive bred Sepia Bandensis - one male and one female. The hope is to get them to breed. here are a couple of pics from an online artical just to hold ya over until they get here.....

no. the fish that were in the clam tank (where the cuttles will be housed) went to the 180. the 240 is still pretty packed :)

I see, I dont remember seeing fish the last time I looked at the clam tank. So you will only be able to view the Cuttles from above then. Cant wait to see the little ones when the come in. Man if this works for you and Erik you may have started a Cuttle Bug:bigsmile:
