Anyone want to try and guess what this little one wants to be when he grows up?... Must have shown up with a new coral I got a few weeks ago... about the size of a match head, but growing pretty fast....

I thought it was just a bit of debris until I saw it grab and eat a mysis that was about its own size or maybe a bit bigger...I hope its a keeper but it seems like only the bad surive...( majano, aptaisa...)...

I'm gonna go ahead and say "Majano". Especially if it is growing faster than you would expect. Do the ends glow green in actinic? Does it move quickly (for an anemone)? Again, size and speed of growth, I'd still lean towards Majano.

no color on the ends at all yet...hasn't moved since I spotted it , but it is growing fast...

Do Majanos always grow fast?

I have a small one in my tank (smaller than a dime..) which I have been feeding bits of shrimp to.. hasn't grown hardly at all.. but I have been told it was a Majano...

what are their distinguishing characteristics? I was told .. that they grow fast and multiply like crazy... mine hasn't done either...

I think that sometimes they are like aptaisa in that usually they sting hard, multiply fast and can be a real pain in the keester...but I have also heard a version of your story many times that they don't really do any harm in some tanks, just kinda chill and look pretty...go figure...

If it is majano my experience is the chill version. Somehow I ended up with one. Upon introducing it to the tank it split several times and quickly. I had about 6 clones in 3 weeks. They moved around a lot. 2 have been in the same location for several months now. The rest are all unaccounted. I think some were actually overtaken by some Paly's I had.

I'll have to pick up his rock to get a better one.. but this gives you an idea.. remember he is sitting in a hole.. I thought he was a sand polyp at first.. until he moved about three inches into the hole.. I do have some sand polyps and he looks a little like them.. (but not identical) and he acts completely different! So no idea what he is for sure...

Maybe I don't see it very well, but that doesn't look like a Majano anemone to me, but I cant see it well enough to say what it might be...BTW, I know a few slinkies that are in need of a lonely stairway... ;) ... I just love that.....

yeah.. I didn't think he was a Majano either.. but the people at the LFS said he was.. (i know.. like they are experts.. :roll )... I'll try to get a better pic for ya.. I have a crappy camera.. but I'll work on it tomorrow!

Whatever he is we like him.. and so long as he behaves himself he is welcome to stay!

so what did we decide it is? I really want to know. It reminds me of the ones we saw in Oregon when I was a kid.

OK hope this works. Never used the attach feature. Also the little guy is about 10" out in my tank and blocked by a frag. Had to take the shot at an angle. Hope you can see it.

I'd like to hear if Dabird agrees with the starwberry. If the tents match that's a good find Murky. And if it is a strawberry I'd maybe take a few if they split.

looks almost identical...cool...The only thing I'm wondering about is that arn't the California waters cold? Would an anemone from those waters thrive in a tank with 80 deg. temps?....

dunno but having grown up on the Oregon coast I can tell you that water aint no 80 degrees. The sharks used to microwave the divers before they could eat them

updated picture, it's about 4 times the size and getting some neon green highlights under actinic...

isn't there a way to do a google search with a picture? Guess it isn't a strawberry
