Mine are great. I have 3. They have all found a place with good current and some shelter. they stick out feeders liek a feather duster and comb the water.

Interestingly (to me), a cucumber is a starfish turned inside-out into a tube shape. I like my cuke, too. Sifts the sand; 'expels' clean white sand. I enjoy seeing the feeders pull in bits of sand. Cool. ..Karl

I have had both the yellow, as well the brown ugly ones. The brown one did an swesome job in my tank. It would stretch itself from one side of the tank to about half way. It definitely kept the sand white and clean.

I have 10 different cukes in my 75g. The yellows stay samall and do not act like the others at all from what I have seen. I believe you were asking about the yellows?

the yellow ones are filter-feeders, while the tigers, ashy, and black ones "process" substrate. the yellow ones may be picked at by angels or butterflys or other"nippy" type fish. if the cuke has the feathery looking appendages, it's a filter feeder, if not, it's more of a bottom scavenger. some people say that they can crash a whole tank by emitting a toxic goo, but i have never seen, or heard of a well documented case of this happening with anything other than a "sea apple", which is a cuke, but much larger than any yellow cuke i've ever seen. i once had a yellow cuke crawl right into a patch of yellow polyps and get stung pretty good, he did begin to emit a white substance, so i pulled him pretty quickly, but i noticed no ill effect of the goo. it even drifted directly into some corals, they didn't seem to mind much.

I have about 4 different flavors. tigers(brown and white almost spikey looking), black, a white with blue spots and brown wash, and a strange yellowish white one that is also a sand sifter. Most are about 6"+ as they can stretch over a foot. I have multiples of most. I really enjoy watching them do their thing and I think it helps add a strange dimension to the tank. they do an awesome job of turning over the sand for me. Also I keep sea hares (absolutely the best algae grazer $10 will buy) and large medusa worms. I like the strange bits of marine keeping. I also adore tunicates.

Cuke sand cleaners and Queen Conchs are my two favorite cleaners.

Scroll down HERE (http://www.local1259iaff.org/125greeftankpics.htm) and see the cuke at work on the left.

Caferacer - I love the tunicates, too! I have many small ones. It's cool when they spawn. Do you know of a place (or website) to get them? --- sorry, getting a little off-topic; maybe you can PM me on that. Karl
