Will a standard magnetic ballast that fires xm's, ushios, iwasakis fire a reeflux bulb?

Yes, as long as it fires mogul bulbs it will fire a reeflux

It won't be as bright as with electronic ballast. On my 175w there was about a 20% difference. And it wasn't like the Reeflux where dim with the mag. ballast, they where just much brighter with the electronic.

I am going to upgrade my light hood soon. I am going to buy three ballasts and three bulbs, all 250 watt HQI, what do you guys recomend. I like the light to be slightly blue.

Depending on the ballast it may not look quite so white as on an electronic, on mine it looks like the is a bit of yellow which I don't really like too much.

Nah, go electronic with the XM 15K. My tank it a pretty blue.
Ross, just go to AdvancedAquarist.com and look at the spectral analysis done by Sanjay. It has many differnt bulbs and ballasts and usually all bulbs look/run better on mag ballasts.

Not a problem. The reading is full of info and very helpful. I just wish he would go through and do all the newer bulbs that have come out.
