Can you all help me to I.D. this new thing that has begun to appear in my tank? It's in the center of the picture and looks like a zoo. It does not grow in groups and it is spread around the tank. So far I have about 6 or so that I can see.

I had one before but it was almost clear. Dang, last time i used kalk and a syringe. I heard about something called joe's juice. What works best.

That is the magic question. If there was one thing that worked 100% we would all have it and use it. I have used everything from boiling water in a syringe to a blowtorch (taking rock out of the water). So good luck with that.
For your sake I hope someone chimes in and tells me I'm wrong and it's something else.

It's possible they are just button polyps. A little hard to tell but the little arms dont' really look long enough to be aptasia to me.

With the amount of color and non extended polyps I'd also like to add, mejano anemone to the list. I have a few and I like them They have stopped splitting and I have about 6. They cruise around unlike aptasia. Folks treat em like aptasia and get rid of them as soon as they see them. Joe's has been the best remedy I've used so far. For just a couple of aptasia a pair of peppermint shrimp should keep the tank clear of them in the future.

Will the peppermints harass any other corals? I have a mixed reef with clams.

It looks like mojano, but I am not sure if thats what it is. ITs hard to tell from the pics. Mojanos tentacles tend to be a little more bulby. Its a tough call.

So,if it is mojano, how do you get rid of it?

Joes is supposed to work on them too. I have heard (haven't tried) using lemon juice in a syringe does it nicely. Basically the acid breaks them down from the inside. But you must be careful as any extra can do weird stuff to your tank like crash out pH and stuff like that. I've left mine alone and they quit breeding and moving. A few just disappeared by themselves. I think some were overpowered by a cluster of green paly's.

If its a majano, that's a toughy. You basically have a couple of alternatves. Heat, chemical control, or biological control.
Heat - remove the rock, heat a screw driver, and burn it out.
Chemical - Lime juice, Joes juices, and other equivalent products. These can potentially help spread the anemones around the tank. All it takes is a few surviving cells for a new colony to form. In addition, like aiptasia, you can only treat the ones you can see. There are usually more that are hidden that can repopulate the tank. If you keep working at it, and are patient, you may eventually get all of them.
Biological control - Choices here are pretty limited. There is a supposedly a nudibranch that will eat them, but it will also supposedly go after other soft corals. Someone from MARSH was raising them at one time. Check their website for info. The only other alternative is a raccoonn butterfly. They too can be be non reef friendly and should be watched closely. At least they can be removed from a tank more easily then a small nudi that hides out a lot of the time.

I had some of them mojanos (exactly what yours looks like) and I used kalk paste in the needle tipped syringe that come in saliferts Ca test kit and killed all mine, haven't seen one since. It don't look like aptasia to me, but what do I know :)
Good luck

Its almost impossible to tell what it is from that picture. I does vaguely resemble a button polyp more than aiptasia or majano. Need a closer, clearer pic to be certain.

I have had those in my tanks. They have a greenish hugh under the right light. Nobody could ever ID it. It does move around like an anemone. I never had any problems with them stinging anything. If they start reproducing like crazy just inject them with vinigar or lime juice.

Majano or aptashia, in any case JOES JUICE IS GREAT! It killed all the aptashia in my tank within minutes!
