I have heard mixed reviews about ozone generators in reef tanks.

Anybody here running one? What are the pros and cons of running a unit?
Is my 22g too small for me to run an ozone unit?

I have run it on my 125, it does a good job of boosting skimmer performance, but it can be dangerous to your tank if it gets out of your sump and into the tank, it can burn fish gills, and who knows what else, it is very unstable and breaks down in a few seconds or so, but on a tank as small as yours, and unless you had a large sump, I dont think I would use it..

I have one in each tank, I havent seen anything but good things from it, water is super clear, run skimmer once a week, ozone gen, 24-7

I'll say I'm happy with it, Scuba Steve has one and so does Marlin, I got mine from ebay for like $50.00 ?

is an enaly ozone gen.

I run ozone on one tank and not the other. When I do the weekly water change, the water I remove from the tank without ozone is more discolored (yellow) than the tank with ozone.
That tells me it's working.

I use it, but would not on a tank that small Sean. Too risky.

I have heard they are great for those keeping sps' but not for those that keep softies in their tank. Something about the purity of the water causing the softies to shrivel up and possibly die off.

Gotta agree w/Todd - I run one on my system, but I have plently of volume and time-in-sump for residual ozone to react w/bios before reaching the tank. It would be VERY hard to monitor & control on a small tank.

Good to hear seamonkey2, I'll see if I can find the article. It's always good to hear that what is generally written in books doesn't always seem to be true. It's good to know that you can sometimes prove the 'EXPERTS' wrong.
