View Full Version : use Mag Float as Tunze holder?

Anyone ever used a big Mag Float (like the 350 or 360), drill it, and mount a Tunze Turbelle on it? I saw they sell 'magnetic holders' for them, but a little expensive. I think using the Mag Float might be about half the price. Anyone ever done it, or tried it? Curious... ..Karl

I made these instead

The most I've ever mounted to one is two seio 820s, I have no idea how much a tunze weights though.

Dark's magnet worked great for my M620's.

I would stay with the Tunze magnet mount. The magnets it uses are stronger and are located in the 4 corners. I'm not sure a mag float would be up to the task of holding the 'heavy' powerhead, not to mention the constant vibration.

just go for the Tunze magnet mount. I thought they were expensive at first, but I figure better safe than sorry...

I should also add that I have 2 6060's running and both are on Tunze magnets. They hold fantastic. I never worry about them.

I have a 6100 on a Tunze Magnet mount and it definitely is a stronger hold than a magfloat would provide. It actually takes effort to separate the Tunze magnet.

And I like Enigmas tank, go figure.

I bought these for all of my maxi jets and seios and they work great...they are super strong, fairly inexpensive and one thing I like about them is that you can take the pumps off to clean easily.
NO MORE SUCTION CUPS!!!!!

Wow. Thanks for the input/feedback. (Had a get-together at my house tonight; have only just been able to reply.)
I have a 6080; rated to push like 2250 gph. Yeah, it does vibrate, and it seems (without actually having weighed it) to be heavier than other powerheads I have. The consensus seems to be to fork over the dough for a name-brand Tunze holder. However, I have had suction cup problems with maxi's et. al. So Dark's idea -- or Don's manufactured ones -- are a real bonus for me to have seen. Very useful, I mean, even setting aside the question on the Tunze.
I really gotta thank all of you for the excellent pointers/advice! ..Karl

Yeah, on one of the posts I showed a pic of my mag float glued onto my mj400. I used gel glue and it has been holding it like a champ. What's cool is you can move it anywhere you want around the tank if you need to clean without having to get your hands wet.

I can verify that Dark8ngels magnets work really well. Caught my finger in one and gave me the ugliest blood blister no worries about holding the powerheads. Thanks Ben
