Money in frags?

Has anyone (besides lfs) made any profit off of frags? Setup a tank just for the growing and selling of frags? Or is this merely a hobby with no return?

Nope.. there is a lot of ppl, who frag them and make money... not a lot.. but make money to keep upgrading or for repairs.

Not when I come buying.....Hahaha...... I've met a few that frag to help offset the cost of the hobby. If you want to make money of course you can, look at Fosters and Smith or ReeferMadness for examples. But I'd think if you had a day job and it was more of a hobby sized frag tank you'd lose money faster than anything you've tried before. I'd just shoot for having a huge sump with a frag growout area. Make 20 or so frags a month on the first of the month. Glue em to nice rock pieces and hope they encrust and look nice at the end of the month hoping to sell them for $20 each. It'd help pay for your hobby. I like Steve's approach. Knocking off frags with a magnet scraper and explain to me that if I didn't pay a couple of dollars for the frag it would end up in the trash can as it was in the way of the scraper.

Mike Paletta sells his frag pack for $1150, frags like three times a year I think is what he told me. So you can def. make some cash off it. Of course, it just helps pay for the hobby. He has a 1200 gallon tank so I'm sure it just helps cover his electric bill

i sell frags to offset the cost of the gear i buy, thats about it. im sure yuo can make money offa it, but most just frag to share and help cover the costs of more expensive stuff :)

I know some people buy colonies and just keep a portion. Most of the time the frags from the main colony will pay for it and you break even, with a nice piece of coral for free. Or close to free ;)
