I have a 30 gallon 30in X 12in X 18in tall it is only 3 months old so I am just starting to add more corals, I have mushrooms, xenia, zoa's, and a LPS candy cane. I have a Aqua C remora skimmer with a maxi jet 1200 with over flow box. I also have a maxi jet 1200 with a hydor flow rotating head that is on the right side glass about 2/3 of the way up. The jet of water coming out of the rotating head is pretty powerful and seems to blast the corals. Is this probably to much flow? Should I move down to the maxi jet 900?

No, just move the pump so its not blowing directly on the corals. Eventually youll find that thats not enough flow. Some people use Tunze streams in a small tank like that. Flow is good.

Yeah, sounds like good flow
I had a Tunze and a mag7 return in my 40g and I thought it was perfect

I have Sean's TUNZE in my 24g along with a seio M620. They crash into each other but are not blowing the sand around. But honestly the TUNZE is for my 75, but in that tank I'll have the TUNZE 1,600gph, 2 M620's 1,240gph, my Eheim return pump 500gph. What is that? 3,340 GPH in a 75?
I also had a Hydor rotator, didn't like it a bit. Slowed ouput to a crawl and seemed to constantly lock up. I'd look into getting a big ol pump attached to a SCWD for real fun in a 30g.

Thanks for all the information! I would like to have a better wave maker but do not have the funds right now. poor college student. Caferacermike: have you used a SCWD? One of my friends was telling me that they don't last very long. Anyone else used the SCWD? also how big of a pump GPH?
Thanks
Todd

I have never owned a squid. I have read good and bad about them. I "think" the bad is because they require more cleaning than other pieces of equipment we use in this hobby. This may help....http://www.melevsreef.com/closedloop.html

You can never have too much flow, just make sure the jets don't blow directly on your corals and your fish aren't stuck to the side of the glass. :lol

I moved my maxi jet to the side next to my over flow box with the out put turned towards the front glass. The flow is bouncing of the front glass and then on to the rocks. Is this a bad idea? will this just take all my flow away?

Along these same lines, I have a 150g tank with a tunze 6060 with 2 maxijet. I was thinking about adding a seio 1100 or 1500 for more flow. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

how much flow would you recomend for a 75 reef? i have 2 1200 mj, two 600s mj, a 400 hidden in the rocks and the return which is a Mag 7 but im going to up grade to a 12 with two pvc pipes in kind of a V shape. i dont like how all the pumps look in the tank, maybe when i upgrade i can loose the two 600 or hide them in the rocks as well. What do you guys think?

Yeah upgrading to the mag 12 will help out alot, you could get rid of the MJ 600s.
