temp control

has anyone tried a temp control device you would put on a computer to cool a sump? I was thinking 3 fans tied into a Black Logisys 3.5" Digital Thermal Controller(http://www.directron.com/fp206bk.html) and a power supply.The display would be routed into the stand so it can be viewed externally.

Not exactly connected to a computer, but I use Vantec Thermoflow fans connected to my ReefKeeper. At 80 degrees the RK turns the fans on, and if temp gets any higher, the fan speed increases. I have them in my hood, and am going to put them over the sump also when I figure out how to cut decent holes in the stand.

I Bought them on ebay from someone in Houston that adverstised them for reef tanks. Shop around because the price varies widely.

did you hook them to a power adapter?

I used a spare wall wart rated at 1000mw, or something close to that. Cut off the unused speed wire. Plugged the power adapter into the chiller channel of the RK.

ou812pezz the problem with your controller would be the temp sensors. They are not waterproof, hell there not even moisture resistant. Unless you plan on putting the sensors in the hood or some other dry location the thermistors won't work. I guess you could find other thermistors that were water proof (temp probes) and use them, but unless their high and low resistance ranges are the same make take some adjusting. IE: when your tank is 78 the probe may read 90 and you'll have to find out what it reads when the water gets "warm". So it's possible to do just may take a little work; unless your putting the sensors in dry areas.
