I've got a 6" Emperor Angel, and last night i added a Flame Angel to a 650g tank. When I woke this morning I found the Emperor kicking the crap out of the mostly dead Flame angel. Is this normal for these guys? I was told that dwarfs and large angels were cool together. When i put the flame in every fish sort of gave him a few pokes then left it alone, I checked in it before i went to bed, and it was fine. It wasn't hiding just looking for a place to sit for the night. My normal procedure for adding a fish would be to move the fake coral peices, feed some pellet food, drip the new fish for about an hour, turn off the lights for anywhere from 15-24hrs. to get all the fish time to settle down from the upset. Normaly i just check on the fish every 2-3 hours during the night. Last night I just went to sleep and found it too late this morning. Any advice would be great on this subject since i need to get some Red coloring in my tank.

I was going to go with the big bubble powered treasure chest, but that would be to "natural looking."

I have fake coral in my fowlr tank. The large red sponge tree and a purple acro I believe. Also have a cave that looks like a brain coral.

I haven't housed an Imperator, but I do have a 6-7" Koran and a 6" Majestic in my 200 gallon. They went at each other for about a week, kind of like Godzilla vs. Mothra, but eventually they settled down. They never went after the tangs, clowns, or chromis. Now I did observe them defend themselves when the Clown Tang would challenge them, especially the Majestic(close relative to your Imperator). Perhaps your flame angel started something that he couldn't finish. Sorry for your loss, sounds like the flam didn't make it. I can't imagine that they felt 650 gallons was not enough room for them to live together happily. Someday I hope to upgrade my 200 to a 650-700 size FOWLR.

I noticed that the chart from live aquaria shows large angels wth dwarfs are OK, and large with large is Caution. I guess my Emperor angel had a large chip on his shoulder. The flame angel didn't make it 24hrs. I may get up the nerve to try another one day. As for getting some red color in my tank i may try a Minniotus Grouper and a nice burgandy zebra lion.

auSS/Tin, If you upgrade to a 650+ prepare for some big numbers on your electric bill. I had to run a 1hp chiller and a 1hp pump and some high wattage lights to penetrate such deep water. If you get one that's not drilled get with me. I'll have a custom overflow with 6 "j" tubes for ya.

I have been doing this for 4+ years and every summer I say that I am going to do a chiller, but I always make it through without one. My sump and skimmer are in the garage and my tank temps get up to 90 degree during the summer. I know that a lot of people are going to scream at me for this, but simply put I have not had a single fatality due to heat. In fact the only two fish that I have lost in the last 3 years are a Orchid Dotty back from when I moved(couldn't ever find him) and a blue throat trigger that my clown tang decided to not let eat anymore(I tried to catch him for a month before he passed). As far as lighting goes, I currently have 2 175's and 128 watts of actinic. For an 11' tank I would add 2 more 175's with more actinic, or possibly 250 DE's. I want a 11' long x 30" wide x 30" tall tank, so I think that I will be okay for a FOWLR tank with this lighting. Other devices I am already running is a Euroreef CS12-2RC so that electrical consumption will not change.

Forgot what else I was going to comment on.

Miniatus Grouper. I had one when I first started this, he came with the tank. Great fish and very pretty. He was very shy, but if food was out he didn't care and being that he was 9" long, I could stand across the room and watch him swim. They are not that active of swimmers so take that into consideration, and they will eat smaller fish.

I added a Flame to my 200 several years ago when Tamer first openned Aquatic Warehouse and my Queen Angel and Clown trigger never even looked at him, never bothered him. They ate the big stuff and he cleaned up the scraps. I have since gone through two Clown Triggers and my Queeen has passed on so I moved my Imperator to this tank and no problems. Tough to hear about your Flame.
