In the blue corner with the pale yellow trunks we have AL - "the albino" Yellow tang

In the red corner with the red & blue dotted trunks we have Minnie - "the I'll hurt you" Minniatus grouper

Who will win?? :unsure

I woke up this morning to turn the lights on in the tank and what do i see to my AMAZEMENT??? :o The Minniatus and the Tang ROLLING around in the sand and i dont think it was a romantic embrace either with the Eel looking on as if he was refereeing the whole match.... :pics I startled them when i hit the lights cause i snuk up on them in the dark. :ph34r Is this what goes on at night while we are all asleep?? :unsure Is there an "underground" fight club that happens in our tanks when we are not looking cause i'll tell you these 2 are like best buds when the lights are on.....
They have both been in the tank together for a week..
They are in a 125 ALL ALONE you would think there is enough room!!
I DONT GET IT!!!
How do i get them to STOP other than having to keep watch 24/7 so they dont kill each other cause when i saw the groupers mouth completly open i dont think he was trying to "french kiss" the tang.......

Any suggestions besides taking one out?? :angry

they may work out territories and stop, but if it continues too long, you may not have to take one out alive :(

Agreed...if the grouper is already "testing" his mouth opening, it is only a matter of time before he tries to swallow the tang whole. I caught my v-tail grouper sizing up a (full size tomato) clown a few years back...two days later, the clown was missing and the grouper had a huge bulge in his belly. I think he swallowed him sideways...

just keep an eye on him...if it continues, you will probably need to take one out.

well, I left this part out...you could just make sure the grouper is REALLY well fed, like every 2 days some meaty foods or live feeders. But then again, that will make him grow faster, and bigger....

Sorry but the Tang would be history.. the Minniatu$$$ would win hands down...

as for keeping the grouper well fed... I sure do.. i feed them frozen krill soaked with garlic or cyclop or whatever the flavor of the day is.. and they eat everyday sometimes twice a day depending on if its a week end or if i see he didnt eat as much. i feed about 15+ krills in that tank cause i also have an eel with a big appetite..

Another fish for real?? :unsure

What kind any kind? big small cheap expensive??

Is this to distract both of them from fighting with each other and have them gang up on another one or would this decrease the tension thats currently in there? :unsure

should i remove the minniatus for a little while and then put him back in?? ;)

i have a panther grouper and the more i feed him the more he will eat...when i had tank mates in there with him i would only introduce fish equal to his size or bigger...he never bothered any of his tank mates.....

I wouldn't add anything smaller than at least half the size of the Grouper if you add anything at all.

I think the Panther is a little bit different in body style, and the one I had in the past was much more docile than the v-tail (which is closer in shape to the minniatus). The v-tail would almost jump from the water at feeding times, and was much faster at catching his prey. The panther would almost stalk more like a lion...at least in my experience. I think the Minniatus is going to eventually try to eat anything that is up to half his body size, as long as it doesn't bite back or sting.

I am no expert, but this is my experience.
