We are getting into the season to start looking at people who are willing to take the reigns and help lead MAAST into the future. We are looking for any charter member (or web member that would like to become charter) who is willing to take up a Board of Directors position within the club.
We are in real need of people who have the time available to help out the club, and if you bring any special talents that would be helpful to the club/website. Many of the day to day functions of the site are handled from some of existing BOD members. As many of you have seen though, we are in need of some people who have the ability to take over some of the administration of the site when needed and required. Nothing personal to our current administrator as he’s done a great job in bringing this to life and what he has done with it, but his time has become extremely limited and we need more help in this area. That being said, please post if you would like to be considered for the position and a small bio on yourself and what you can bring to the club. I hope I didn’t scare anybody away, but we need people that are serious about the positions, and the club can really benefit from someone that has the capability to spend the time needed to make this a better club/website.
Last year we asked for anyone who was interested in becoming a BOD to write a small bio explaining why you’d like to be a board member and what you can bring to the table. I’d like to see basically the same thing this year, and again we will bring all the individuals to a vote from all charter members. We will work as hard as possible to let members know the date for voting so we can get as much participation as possible. That being said please post if you would like to be considered for a position and a small bio on yourself and what you could bring to the club. We would really like to see maximum participation on this from our club members. There’s been a lot of constructive criticism as of late from many people along with many questions as to why this and that hasn’t been done. Now is your chance to make a difference and make things happen.

A house is just another building, my "home" is made of committments to family and love. Similarly, a club such as MAAST is made of committment to its members, support of its goals, and love of the shared interests.
My "home" requires my attention now ... I just hope some of you can see through the wood and cinder blocks and hold this togetther until a time when I may be able to serve again!
Then again, maybe we really don't need nano forums and such?

There is no firm number as of yet, BUT at the moment there appears to be at a minimum four BOD positions that are being vacated.

My fault...Should have left that out. But the short and sweet of it.
There was an accusation awhile back that this organization was controlled by a "good 'ol boy" club. Both in and out of the BOD. It went round and round and never went anywhere or anything proven or disproven (that a word?). I thought the whole thing was a bit comical but guess it was not for some others.
So as a disclaimer
I am not in a clique nor have I ever been in one or have any future plans of joining one. :P

Well guys and gals, Im still somewhat new to this club but would like to add my name to the list. Buts just because im new here doesnt mean that Im without experience as I have served on various BODs of non profit organizaitons such as being a board member, treasurer, and chief of the Southwest VFD and also being a district steward for the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association. I also have experience in network administration. Currently i find myself with excessive unproductive time and would like to focus this time on a worthy cause. I feel that this club could benefit from new leadership which would bring new ideas and perspectives to the table that would result in positive outcomes. The main goal is to make this into a progressive, educational, informative, and fun club especially if we are considering a bid for MACNA. Ok i will step off the soap box now....but please consider my interest for the BOD. thanks
Alfred

well i dont't have the experience as the man above me has but i'm willing to throw my name in also. i'm just an average working stiff who is trying to balance my home life, work and this great hobby of ours. i have a bad habit of questioning things and trying to figure out what will work or not, and i also like to think differently than most, believing that there is no set way that things have to be done. all i can say is that i hope i can help out maast the way it has helped me.

I would have loved to give it a go. I know it would have really shaken some peoples lives to see me in there. I'd have ran just to see their expressions and disgust.
However as was pointed out, I would need spare time. That is one thing my job does not afford me. With a continuously changing schedule of 50-80 hours weekly and when necessary mandatory weekends I have no control over when and where I'll have time available. Ask Sean, CPreefguy about my trips to his place at midnite to buy corals and equipment for fear that they would have sold by the time I had a day off to schedule a trip to San Marcos. My varying schedule makes it impossible for me to "commit" to anything.
Also another huge factor for me is this underlying feeling at the moment that Austin is not really part of MAAST. I've been lurking around for 6 months now and I don't remember even once seeing a meeting scheduled near Austin. Maybe I missed it. I realize that maybe if people from Austin, such as myself, became senior members than maybe it would change a bit. Hopefully someone that has the ability to provide enough time can run from this area.

We have asked over, and over, and over, and over, and over for an Austin location for a meeting because we haven't had one there in such a long time. We get no responses and the meeting committee has been very frustrated over that same point. We'd love to have another meeting in Austin if we can get someone to pony up a location. I'm not trying to be agrumentative about this, just that I personally posted in a thread a few months ago because of the same complaint and I still don't believe we've had an offer to host a meeting there. The meeting committee members could answer that for sure. When I first joined MAAST we were almost hosting every other month between SA and Austin but that just doesn't happen due ot lack of hosts up there.
If you know of places or a place that will host please contact them about it and have them get with one of the committee members. Once again, be part of the solution if you can in any way possible.

Hey Mike! I'm stepping up to the plate... everybody look out! ;) Maybe once my tank is less crude, I'll host it at my place. I don't have TONS of room, but we're a close-nit group..we'll just be a bit closer. 8)
I've been going to all the SA meetings I can. Yesterday, I even drove TWICE as far as I needed to! Talk about "going the distance"--sheesh!
Anyway, if you are ever available to go to SA for one of the meetings, let me know. You can ride with me. It's the least I owe you for hooking me up with so much great stuff. Don't worry, you will be very accepted at the meetings--trust me. :)
Oh..and by the way.. we are ALL coming close to living in glass houses considering all of our tanks! :blink
Alright...assign me to my post if there is still room. :wacko

If you guys claim you want more meetings in Austin, why did the pole results show otherwise? I'd be willing to bet the people that voted Austin for more meetings live in Austin.

Maybe people were thinking the question was: "Where do you want MOST of MAAST meetings to be?" Considering most members live in SA, I can understand that most meetings would be in SA. However, I thought the question was more about where to expand our meeting range to. That is: most of the meetings would be in SA still, but we would expand our meeting locations to Austin, LFS, etc. I thought that choosing "San Antonio" would mean no change to how the meetings are done now (at individual's houses in SA). Did I misunderstand?
I vote to expand the range to Austin and LFSes. Perhaps every other month...or every third month?

we never have minded making it to Austin, and to be honest, the meetings at Angela's & Phett's houses were great. We would more than likely make it to every MAAST meeting, no matter where they are. I believe in this club growing, and with that you will be encompassing a larger territory with more people! Austin is good because there are alot of people from in-between areas that are able to make it as well. This is a great site/club/organization, and I am glad to be part of it, even though I am only a web member (till this meeting ;)) I know this is an older thread, but the valdity remains!
