I bought a butterfly fish last week, got him acclimatized and put him in my 150g tank with. I only have 2 tangs in the tank. yellow and powder brown. My powder seemed to bother him for a little bit then stopped but would start up a day or so later. Came home tonight and the butterfly was upside down in the rocks. I proceeded to get him out but he was still alive. He is basically hanging out in the rocks upside down. I can disturb and he will swim to the other side of the tank. Any suggestions on what to do besides getting him be himself? He was eating good until today.

Can you move him into another tank or a sump?

I actually moved him into a bucket by himself and he seems to be doing ok. Yes, I can put him in the sump. I thought about leaving him in the bucket for tonight and make sure he makes it thru the night, thoughts?

Might be time to upset all the fish. some idea's.... move the aquascaping at a minimum. possibly remove the tangs and put the butterfly back in. let that fish settle. then put the tangs back in. HTH

One thing I have done is to cover the tank with a blanket and turn off the lights for a day or two. Unless you have coral that is. I think the darkness gives the new fish time to acclimate and when the lights come back on they seem to be less aggressive.
