well, ive finally decided on the tasnk im setting up as salt, and it will be the 20 gallon..., so what type of skimmer would be good for that tank? also, how much would a 38" beckett skimmer, with a iwaki 55rlt pump go for? also, how much without the pump?

A beckett that size on a tank that size would be ridicoulus, it could easily skim a tank of 200 gallons. I'd suggest somehting much smaller like a euroreef or asm. They are also better for energy conservation.

Yep, that's a situation where you turn on the skimmer and the tank drains. If 20 gallons wasn't a typo, probably your best bet would be either a prism or a bakpak hang on.

Assuming the same about 20g wouldn't water changes be easier and cheaper? I have a Current Fusion for nanos I'm thinking of parting with only cause I got soemthing else used for a good price.

I have had great results with a back pak on 45 gallon. It should work out well on a 20. Just take the blue baffles out. They trap detritus.
And I believe he is asking prices to general idea to SELL the beckett skimmer and pump he has now... Thats what I have gathered from previous skimmer questions. I don't know off the top of my head what they would be worth, but maybe someone can see this and give flobex some info on it.

Oh I see, well, one of my single beckett skimmers that size would sell for about $500, maybe a little more if it were new, and if it's a japanese iwaki (MD55rlt, not WMD55rlt) it's worth around $200 if it's in good shape. If this is one of Pete's skimmers, he uses much less expensive materials than I used when I made them, so you'd have to take that into consideration.

Jim, I haven't had much time for building anything lately. If you're still looking for a skimmer, let me know and I'm sure I can work it out. So far the "small" needlewheel skimmer is working great on my corner tank, and Troy is using one on his heavily stocked 240 while he's waiting to get another pump for his beckett skimmer. I'm still tweaking the design a little, but I think the last one worked out just about the way I want it. It's 29" tall, similar to but a little bigger than the euroreef CS135. I could shave a couple of inches of it with the same pump, and I know it would fit in your sump because our sumps are the same size.
Hope everything's going well for you!
