just did two mods on my mj1200 and boy do they move water...I place them in my 125g system which is 6' long so each one is positioned on each end towards the back of the tank facing towards the center...well i have alot of flow and im not sure if its too much...its crazy my fish dont swim around like they use to, they kinda stay huddled up next to rocks....my questions: is this too much flow?, should i try to lower the flow if so how?, can i put these pumps on a dimmer? or maybe cover the intake shrowd to restrict water flow?.... ok any ideas here would be appriciated...thanks

I added a 1,600gph Tunze to my freshwater 6 footer and I thought I had gone nuts for doing so. However 24 hours later my fish began playing in the current. Just took a minute to get over the shock. My 12" blue eyed panaque sits on the end of a log with his snout touching the vent of the stream maker. Couldn't be happier. Since I don't live at your house all I can say is give them a say or 2 and see how they react.

I agree, I did the same thing, they will get used to it.

ok you guys are right....my fish are getting used to the increased flow....they are now coming out from under the rocks and are finding eddies out near the front of the rock scape....but my frog span is not adjusted yet im not sure if its tolerant to the high flow, maybe i should move it closer to the middle????

I keep all my euphyllia (correct sp?) frogs, hammers, torches in gentle flow areas. If they extend out into a current they can cut their insides on the sharp skeleton below the skin. I break up water currents by placing them between rocks. That way as they grow out into the currents they can adjust as necessary.
Glad to hear the fish are coming out. If i've ever noticed anything about current it just seems the more you have the better and healthier the tank is. My friend had a huge hair algae problem in his tank and didn't want to tell me. He was going to the lfs and buying all these phosphate removal pouches and potions. Kept buying lawn mower blennies (and like any good lawn mower they quickly stop eating algae and blow up on prepared foods) and sea hares. One night I stopped by and was like Rick what is going on with your tank? I got him a seio M620 for his 40g and the currents immediately scrubbed away his algae problem and prevent it from settling and growing. I figured this out when I had hair algae growing on my plants in my freshwater, that's what prompted me to buy the Tunze for that tank. I never need to clean the glass anymore.
