Help, my 1hp chiller lost it's r22, my tank is at 90deg. Is there anyone that can spare a chiller, I'll even pay rent if i have to. ESU is going to send me a new one, but it wont be here until monday or tues. All of my fish will be dead bt then. Right now i'm floating ice in bags but that will be long gone by the time i get home from work. The tank is 600+ gal. so it will need to be a .5hp or bigger.

I have a 1/3 hp aqualogic. I know it's too small but it's better than nothing. I was going to put fish in my new tank this weekend (only LR and LS in there now) but I could wait until next week if I had to. I would hate for you to loose anything...

Just a thought - if it just lost refrigerant - can't you find a licensed someone to refill? Most chiller manufacturers will walk someone through the process over the phone.

Felipe @ Fin Addict helped me out in housing my fish until my tank was ready. Perhaps, he could help you out by housing your fish until this is resolved? I could as well. All I need is another heater to keep mine from getting too cool @ night. My wife keeps the house an sub zero temps over night. I have a 215 that you could use over the weekend if need be.

Thanks, I talked to the tech person at ESU, They said i would not be able to service the system without their equipment. I have brought the temp down to 86 deg. using a swap cooler borrowed from a friend. I guess i'll see how that will pan out when i get home from work. As for the 1/3 chiller I don't want to dammage any more equipment by overloading it, do you think it will handle just bringing the temp down to safe without any damage? and housing the livestock, the 2ft shark and eels are poop factories, along with three good sized triggers and tangs, that might mess up a 215. Jason at fishy buisness said i could use one of his tanks in a pinch.
On the lighter side ESU, has sent the replacement out overnight at thier expence so it should be here tomorrow. I couldn't believe they voluntered to pay for overnight. I just need to keep the fish stabilized untill tomorrow. If you think the 1/3hp will work then i will rent it from you.

Perhaps someone else on here could comment... I do not know if it would damage the 1/3 to run solid? Does anyone know? Would it freeze?

Ya, Jason may be a better option. I'm sure they would be fine in a 215 for one day though. Temp is 78 right now.

If you have room, open up the hood and distance the lights from the tank a lot, turn a couple of the 10K or more white ones off and run a large shop fan over the top of the water. Evaporation will be something else but it will cool the tank to an acceptable level.

Man, just TURN OFF all lights, it wont hurt anything for a couple of days.

All the lights were off and the temp still 91deg. I think that was from all the pumps. I started turning off pumps. the real heat maker is the sequence 1hp. the case of that thing is on fire..

What about just cranking up the AC a lot and use a fan to help with the heat exchange across the water? What is your house temp? My tank stays at about 4 degrees above the house temperature with the lights on.

What part on your chiller leaked and how will you fix it?

Clint it was replaced by the manufacturer. From what we talked about I think it was a freon leak.

Oh I see they are going to replace the chiller not the failed part. That is great customer service!

Now the new chiller is in place and it chills the water down to 76deg in about an hour. So far it looks like everythings under control. ESU has really impressed me with their customer service. now if can only get my hands on another control unit to remote mount in the house to keep tabs on things. Over the weekend we ended up building a room around the tank and plumbed in some a/c to the room. I'm now down to a 1.5 car garage so it i ever end up buying a half a car it will all work out.

A Smart Car from Daimler Chrysler might fit well.

Dodge and Vette man, can't complain with that, but which one gets to go in the garage. I know you are going to say the Vette, unless you have some really nice MOPAR hardware. I have the dodge part down, working on the Vette part. Glad to hear that you have the chiller problem solved. I am hoping to get my hands on CafeRacerMike's 1/2 hp chiller so that my fish can stop sweating. My tank has been at 90 since May(FOWLR) which seems to be rolling with it for now, but I would like to save them some misery.

90 may not be a good temp for those guys. I've brought mine down to 76deg. The fish seem much more happy now. When my temp was up the shark wouldn't move much, It would just sit on the bottom panting like a dog. If you could get your hands on a chiller, that would be great.
As for the dodge/ vette. I had a 76 stingray L88, but had to give it up. Now I'm modding a 96 indy pace truck. i've installed a 6-71 blown 502, 400t, gear vendors. Since i miss the vette so much i'm going to put the vette tail lights in the tail gate and build a 50 style vette dash. The avitar is the actual hood emblem i had custon made to fit where the old 96 dodge ram went on the hood.
This truck may get all the room left in the garage, and the cougar will get left out in the rain.
