I have one and I love it. What are you having trouble with? Putting it together? You have to play with the dial to get the right amount of skim.

there are likely multiple things going on here

1. this is my first skimmer, all my previous tanks were skimmerless

2. from what i hear this thing is pretty finicky

3. i could very well be an idiot haha

all the reviews i read on this skimmer were favorable except for tuning it in, maybe im not holding my mouth right or something?

It is finicky after you dump the skimmate and turn it back on you may have to readjust the dial.

after installing it, then turning the dial the chamber fills up, i then stop it and keep it right at the cup level just like the instructions say. thats it, the water just sits there and the pump makes noise, no bubbles, no nothing. i tried adjusting the dial above the return, still nothing.

Do you have the air hose in the tank?

I need to chime in cause i have the same problem :(
With mine i adjust the 2 dials and the water line goes up to the cup line mark BUT i get no bubbles in the chamber at all and if i do, it releases bubbles out into the tank :unsure that can't be right?? right??

I'd say if the main body chamber is full of white frothy bubbles and some go out the return tube you are getting close. My ER skimmer flows a constant stream of bubbles out of the return side. To prevent bubbles in the tank I used an overflow style foam cylinder over the return tubing. The water flows out and over the foam. The bubbles trap in the foam and dissipitate into the atmosphere. I normally see larger foam bubbles popping about halfway up the neck to the catch cup. When there is sufficient crap in it it will then flow up and over. Never really stays all the way to the top. Maybe your skimmer hasn't been on long enough for it to collect enough gunk to flow over and into the catch cup. If you see the bubbles about halfway up the neck I'd leave it be for about 2 days and see if the cup is filling. If no bubbles at all in the chamber then the airline is definitely clogged, kinked or underwater.

i "think" i finally figured this thing out.

strange, when i turn the adjustment knob one direction, water flows, zero bubbles. turn it the other direction, bubbles like whoa!
