ok kinda new to the hobby heres my problems and request some insight...i have a small rock that started off with about 6 small shrooms and 2 rics on it....but now the shrooms are over taking the rock and are starting to split there is no more room for them to grow and are pushing eachothers flaps up and they look unsightly all folder over...the rics have now turned into four but are being coverd by the larger shrooms....my question is: how do i move the larger shrooms and the new ones to another rock? can anyone point me to a dyi site that has instructions on this i dont want to kill any of the shrooms....thanks

Cut them off at the stems. LOL. They should survive and be able to stick somewhere esle after they heal up in a week or so. The only problem is that a new one will grow from the foot of the old mushroom. You will always have mushrooms wherever they started growing.

Completely removing shrooms from a rock with out ripping them up is pretty difficult. If it were me I would frag the shrooms off like Jeremy said and get them started on a seperate rock. Then kill off the shrooms that start to grow back on the ricordea rock by injecting them with kalkwasser. Keeping shrooms and ricordea on the same rock doesn't work out too well since the shrooms always push out the ricordea as your finding out.

I wish I had your problem. My mushrooms melt. Out of 200 added to the tank only about 60 remain. I think I have to much lighting for them. Was a bummer as when I had 6 T12 full spectrums all was well. I got the idea to go metal halide and well that was that.

just replaced my MHs with two new hamalton 12ks a few days ago...so im going to refrain from doing the fragging until they adjust to the the new light spectrum....if they do well then i will go ahead with the frag as richard and jeremy suggested....thanks guys....oh one more question how do i get these things to attach to another rock...i had another small shroom that detatched itself from its host rock and i could never get it to settle where i place it... it eventually dissappeared....can i glue these guys to the rock if so how do i do it and what type of glue should i use...

I tried super glue, it did not harm them but after about 5 days they would shed a slime coat and off they'd go. On other forums it was recommended to place them on a rock out of the water where you'd like them to be. Wrap the entire rock with panty hose and tie off the ends underneath. After about 2-3 weeks they tended to stick. Some recommended piercing with a toothpick, cut 1/4" from shroom, find a nice hole where you wanted them, place a drop of glue on the cut end of the toothpick and jam that into the hole.

These were only suggestions and I am only repeating them.

just put some rock rubble in a shallow tupperware dish, or something similar, put the cuttings in, and let them attach. the dish is placed on the bottom of your tank of course.

What worked for me is just removing all the rock and scrubbing the heck out of it with a wire BBQ brush and added some boiling water. Have not seen a hint of red mushrooms since. ;)

You can also take the rock out and carefuly scrape them off using an Exacto knife making sure to scrape below the foot and taking some of the rock off. Most live rock is very porous and should scrape easily. Then place them in a low flow area of the tank on the sandbed, if applicable, and let the attach, the sand will act as an anchor so you can put them where you want.

I got one of those floating breeders, put some seashells/rubble on the bottom, threw in the coral, and let it attatch. then you can sell the frags and get rich! (wake up erin....)
