cleaning out live sand

so what i want to do since no one needs this sand i got is rinse it out and use it for a beta my SO wants.

i was wondering, since i dont wanna go out and buy gravel, how hard it would be to rinse out this sand and use it in a freshwater tank.

i know people wont like what im doing, but i *love* the way the sand looks as opposed to gravel.

so is this even possible?

rinse in a bucket with a water hose intil the water runs clear and then spead in out in the sun to dry for a day or two.

beware that it might raise the ph. check what ph bettas like and test the water periodically. 'course if you are doing frequent water changes like needed (weekly) in a small unequipped betta tank, it should be a non-issue.
