We are lookin to up the flow a little in our 30gal and want to add about 400gph and we're not sure what type of powerhead we should look into. Want to make sure to get something reliable. any recomendations?

maxi-jet all the way, maybe 1 modded one. depending on your set up a modded one might be to much flow. as far as reliability, they are nearly impossible to destroy

Yep you can't beat a maxijet. They are inexpensive and go for ever.

My first maxi-jet 1200 died yesterday. it's been running NON-STOP since early 2001. You can't beat that for ~$15

BTW- I have a 30g cube and think two maxijet 1200 are good (mixed SPS and softies), but I think I will replace the dead 1200 with two 900's to diversify the flow a little more.

Why mess around with the small stuff? Just put on a closed loop with a Sequence Hammerhead. :)

We'll start a pool on how long it takes the pump to blow all the water out of the tank. That's sort of the equivalent of cracking pecans with an A-bomb.
