View Full Version : Plumbing pressure/flow problem?

OK, folks. Need some minds here. Attached is a diagram (sorry for the crummy quality) of a modification to my Hiatt system. We are trying to get an equal flow thru each torpedo. I have 2 - 1200 gph (approx) pumps on closed loops. Right now I have 2 torpedos in series on one pump, and one on the other. The 1 has too much flow, and the 2 are on the low side of the recommendation. So, I came up with the diagram.

Here's the problem. Any way to measure the flow on the back side of the torpedos so the flows can be tuned/synchronized? I can find a flow meter up to 250gph, but that's too small. Could/would pressure meters work? They are cheap. Or, will the pressure be the same on all 3 with any flow?

I would think that your pressure would be the same across all three on the outlet side since you are actually compensating for the weaker pumps with the stronger pump equalling out your pressure on the output side. I could be wrong, but that would be my thoughts and I would imagine the pressure would be the same on the inlet sides of the torpedos also.

Actually, in thinking about it, I'm thinking that the INLET side is where I need the pressure gauges. As backpressure builds in one torpedo (due to poor flow), the pressure to THAT one should go up in relation to the others??

That should work.
