I use only RO water, I skim once a week for 48 hours, and I do water changes every 2 weeks, and I have ~300gph on a 24 gallon nanocube.

If its growing on the glass put a pump dierectly hitting the glass, i would say just leave the skimmer on 24/7.

You need to skim 24/7 because 48 hrs a week is deffinently not sufficient. How big of a water change do you do? It would also maybe be a good idea to add another powerhead for some extra flow.

akm has it right, skim all the time. Keep water clean, changed with no extra food laying around that fish missed. Once a tank is balanced with bacteria, calciferous type algaes and with a good set of detrivores living in there, it's less trouble. Micro blue leg hermits and astrea snails will keep the place cleaned up if you have enough of them as will a good macro algae growing in there for nutrient export.

I'd add more flow also.
