Product Information:
Skilter 400 Protein Skimmer & Power FilterThe patented Supreme Skilter is a unique combination of a protein skimmer and an aerating power filter for use in fresh and saltwater aquariums. It is an effective primary or supplemental filter along with its operation as a skimmer.

The advanced venturi-type protein skimmer reflects the latest technology. Air is injected into the water creating millions of very fine bubbles. Potentially dangerous protein compounds and toxins adhere to the bubbles creating a froth. This frothy waste pushes its way up into the collection tray where it can be harmlessly disposed of.

save your money and buy a real skimmer. It doesn't skim from the surface where most of your proteins will accumulate, if you don't keep a water level constant (which is hard if you don't have overflows), then you will be constantly tuning this thing and removing a lot more saltwater than gunk. If you are looking for a HOB skimmer, look into the Prism, and I'm sure someone will recommend others.

Good luck.

I've had a few skilters over the years. I agree they arent much for actual skimming but they are pretty decent HOB filters. One recurring problem I had was over time the plastic stresses where it rests on the tank lip and you end up with a crack that leaks. I've used them for simple fuges too by just adding a light and some more chambers.
