I am in need of a new skimmer.. I would like it to be an in sump skimmer but thats not a 100% deal. I know a while back there was someone in this area that made them.. can someone refresh my memory as to who that was and if they still make them.. or what would you suggest that would work on my 120g..sps tank..
TIA..

This is just my opinion based on my experience. I have a EuroReef skimmer and I would not part with it for all the tea in China. It quickly pulls lots of stuff out of my system, is basically "plug-and-play", very easy to clean, and doesn't eat up a lot of electricity. That would be my recommendation.
Having said that, there are many people who swear by the Beckett skimmers (in or out of sump). There are several MAAST members that make them. I know the "matt" is a guru of skimmers.

I like my ASM skimmer, it's the same principle as the Euroreef John was talking about just made by a guy who left Euroreef to build his own cheaper (extruded acrylic instead of cast and not the ER name). I have the ASM G3 with pump that only uses around 50 watts compared to a 150 watt pump for a beckett style skimmer. This is running on a 100 gallon tank with about another 65 gallons in sump space and runs it easily.

Another vote for EuroReef, for all of the reason's John stated. They are pricey, but work very well.

I second ASM, I have the G3 and love it. Easy to use and pretty much same design as Euroreef, but fraction of the cost.

If you want an external skimmer then I can recommend the Precision Marine beckett skimmers. (I run the bullet 1 with a mag 12 on my tank currently.) Excellent build quality and very well thought-out ease of maintenance. Getting it running was a snap.
If you want an in-sump skimmer then I would recommend the ASM G3 (check out ASMskimmer.com for great prices.)

I have an H & S (simlar to ER and ASM). I think you can't beat this design and low wattage Sue. Been really happy with it. I still run a second skimmer with high wattage pump also, but it doesn't skim anywhere near what the needle wheel does. :)

Another vote for Euro-Reef here. This thing skims like crazy. Very satisfied with mine. BTW Sue, its Jerry from ACRO.

Trigger Systems TS300 Single Becket. Works AWESOME!! Plus its a fine work of art that will not mind standing out in the open. :)

Another vote here for Euro Reef, I have the ES 5-3 model and it skims its butt off.

Sue, I'm the guy that makes skimmers you were probably thinking of. Send me a PM if you want some info. I'm making small needlewheel skimmers kind of like euroreef and of course my larger beckett skimmers too. The small needlewheel skimmer is pretty comparable to the medium sized euroreefs; 6" diameter tube, 30" or so tall, sedra 5000 pump.

hey Matt, can you post some pics of the needlewheel skimmer as i am also in the market for a new skimmer and have been considering the Euro reef or the asm skimmers.Sorry Sue not trying to hi-jack your thread.
