Like always sometimes I get bored. Thinking about selling my 200 - 84” x 24” x 25” and buying a 210 – 72” x 24 x 29”. Couple questions; will 250 MH lighting be bright enough for SPS? Will being 29” deep create more problems than it is worth? I know several members have these so please chime in and tell me the good or bad about aquariums this deep

I don't own one myself but the recomedation is usually 250 watts for 24 inch or less and 400 watts for greater than 24. See what the others say but if you went this route I'd think you wouldn't want to put any SPS or clams in except on the higher sections of the tank.

Mine is 96 long x 30 wide x 25 tall, I have 4/400W 10K MH. However, these are on Lumenarc reflectors which maximize light into the tank. Even at that, to get really good color the SPS needs to be in upper 1/3 of tank.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I would do better just to redo my 200 and stay with a 25" deep tank.

Alton, it just really depends on where you place high light corals in a deeper tank. As long as they are in the upper 12-18" of the tank you can still use 250 watt. It may be enough to get you started and you can upgrade later on. Question though. Why not go ahead ang go to a 240 and you won't have this problem. You can use either 250 or 400.
