This ric is huge and doesn't want to split or grow a clone. My question is if I cut it about 1/3 the way up, will it split and grow a second mouth on its own or do i need to cut part of the mouth.

That looks just like the yumas I have. If you cut it but dont separate the pieces it will likely grow back into one polyp. I get them to split in 1 of 2 ways.
the brave way: hack it into pieces with a razorblade and let the pieces settle onto some rubble. I just hacked some off my derasa clam since they were irritating the mantle. Some of the larger pieces still inflate and are already attaching to sand on the tank bottom.

the easy way: just pile up rubble around the ric and it will either try to move onto the new rock leaving small pieces on the original rock or will send tissue onto the new rocks to grow into new polyps.

Depends on how quick you want it to happen. Razor blade is the quickest to get them going.
