Sue T Hello! The clams were from the Marshall Islands. I believe the clam farm is now owned by ORA.

Do you still bring orders to TX?

I would basically pay anything for clams like those. Most of the maximas ive seen these days are brown or plain. Those have got to be some of the most beautiful clams ive ever seen!

Jim is there anyway we could organize another buy on maxima's? As many others have said, the clams coming in currently do your clams no justice! I'd be in for several and I know we could get a BIG order from this club. I'd be happy to help you with whatever step along the way you'd need just let me know where to start!

John,
The clams (maximas) at this time are almost impossible to get. I not sure on why (I heard something happen) The Marshall Island clam farm is not producing clams as it once did. I remember just afew years back I was able to get as many clams that I wanted. This included maximas of 8 inches and better! Barry from Clams Direct and Sea Dwelling Creatures can't even get them??? At once time I actually got in four maximas that were around ten inches in size. I then sold them to Adam a doctor in upper state New York who was succesful in making them spawn. He ALMOST was able to carry the cycle all the way to baby clams---very interesting!

I heard some rumor about an outbreak of a disease or parasite in the Marshall's. That's why a lot of clams started coming out of Vietnam. The problem with any aquaculture operation is that you are holding livestock in a much higher population density then in the wild. All it takes is one sick individual to result in an epidemic.

Bummer I knew that maximas were nearly impossible to get ahold of right now but thanks for offering the insight. I've also noticed Barry getting some clams in from Vanuatu recently... that's some shipping distance!

Before I had my 240 gallon sps tank I had these! This is when I was into clams. Then Sue T showed me SPS corals---and I was hooked.

i've made several contacts in Vietnam for clams, and have talked to a few people here in the states that have imported several thousand over the past few years. most are not making the trip due to poor bagging and shipping. the % of clams making it alive is 25%. even going to the sellers and showing them how to pack and ship as not brought the % up. they still have poor results. most people are saying it's the way the clams are harvested from the wild. but it is the bagging of the clams that is the real issue.

i year or 2 ago.. if i remember correct, barry had tryed a shipment of clams from Vietnam and had very few make. there are some in the trade still getting them but the % is low.

i belive there are a few new farms in the works or that have started producing a few clams. most of what i have found is a few years old and there have been little updates on there progress.

i'm still looking for a source. and when i do.. :D i'll let you guys know.

Troy, i remember when Barry had that problem...I'm thinking it was maybe 2 years ago... It's sad when the clams have to pay for someones inability to do the right thing..
