so I been battling green water for 2 months now... I mean battling... I did over 4 30% water changes...

then almost all the water twice.... and it was clearing up but kept coming back.... so went to texas tropical.... talked to chris he said it was a type of algea gave me some algea stuff that was for salt tanks and did not kill crustaceans...... tried one bottle it helped a lil still green... couldn't even see rocck work... tried bottle #2 cleared a lil.... then out of frustration not recommended I put in half a bottle that I had left over and in 2 days I have never seen my water so clear......

during this time all my test where fine my fish where great... of course my coral didn't like it but now they are all happy.....

and yes all my water changes where with rodi unit :)

Running carbon and a sock filter would help a lot too.

Gary, what could have caused this? I know a guy who has the same problem.

Green water is caused by a planktonic (free floating) algae. Like all algae the cause of a bloom is excess nutrients (nitrate and phosphates.) With planktonic algae you have one good way to solve that problem. Simply by filtering you are harvesting and exporting the nutrients in the form of biomass. A good form of filtration is a Tridacna clam. A 100 micron sock filter changed out at least once a week is also very helpful.
