I have a few penductors that I am going to use with my new tank. I will be using a mag5 or mag7 as the return, but Ive heard that unless your using a strong pressure rated pump, that the penductors dont do anything...
Anybody know for sure?

You need something stronger then a Mag5 or 7 to get some decent flow out of them. I've hooked one up to a MAG 18 and it worked great, but it seems like a MAG18 is overkill for your system.

I didnt read the entire thread so you may or may not find some usefull informathin. I use eductors with Maxi Jets and they work fine.

You meant "I use eductors" Penductors right and where did you purchase them?

Nevermind the eductors question I read they were made by a differnt company, where did you buy them and are are any cheaper?

I had two of them that were being split off of a single external pump that was rated about 1200 GPH (not pressure rated). I had to remove them because they caused too much turbulence at the top of my water. I couldn't get them any lower because they were on sea swirls. I think they would work fine on a Mag 7 as long as it's dedicated to a single one.

I think they may work on a mag7, but would it be worth it to even put them on there?

According to the reading I have done on them even low (lower than Mag7) flow pumps benefit from them. Seems no matter how much output you have it increases it. JimD uses them on Maxi-jets and the baddest of those is only 270gph I believe.
I am interested in trying a couple where did you get yours from?

I made my own out of pvc and a half inch barb fitting.

How did you make them JIM? I would like to see you design. I am going to make a couple on one of the CNC machines at the shop, just need to be lead in the right direction.... Thanks for any info.

I really need to become a part of modern civilization and get a real computer and a digital camera. Without graphics, its kind of difficult to describe. Basicly its a 3/4" pvc coupling with two 1/2" slots cut into it about 1/2" from the end, shove a 1/2" hose barb in the other end and mark the output side so its centered or slightly behind center in the slots and cut it off there, re-install the hose barb, attach it to the output side of a Maxi and there ya go, instant eductor. They work really well at 'gentling' the flow so its not as harsh and direct. Id say theyre almost equal to Seio's in performance. I use both.

So do they increase the flow any or just gentle it?
I will come by and take pics if you would like, been a while since I have been to your house but I bet I could find it.

Thats a tough question, the output of the pump remains the same no matter what, I would say that with the introduction of additional water pulled into the slots there may be some increse in flow but minimal at best. I use them mainly to create a wider flow pattern thats not as consentrated in one area. Lemmee know when youre planning to be in the area!

Mike,
I have one that I built. Kinda the same as Jim's. I will bring it with me next time I come over and this time I'll remember the sump. Costs about $3. Not the sump...LOL.
