FYI - SA and other Texas areas will be experiencing power outages due to unseaaonal temps, says CPS. Read more Here (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/metro/stories/MYSA041706.power.KENS.45af7f24.html)

If they really only last 15mins each, probably no big deal, but if longer .....

Maybe I will get a change to try out MikeyBoy's Generator afterall :angry

I had one and had just added water to my sump to try and solve a micro bubble problem. Well I forgot the possibility of back flow due to power loss and of course when the power went out about 2-3 gallons of water ended up in the carpet. S.O.B!!!!!!

We've had more outages than I can count. They haven't been long (less than 30 seconds) but they have been frequent (more than a dozen an hour). But I've been properly trained and stand ready to unplug the dohicky and turn the thingamajig straight up and down if they last longer than a minute :lol

Not realizing the outage was expected I called CPS (no power= no TV or internet to find out about it) and they said that the outages should be almost over for everyone by now. Phew! The pressure of staring at the tank was killing me! Maybe I will cave and get him a generator for Father's Day. :unsure

I had a blackout today for about 10 min, but they are adding houses to my subdivision and I think they were messing with the power.

Tried to make Time-Warner pay for the 48 hours my cable was out (take of 1/15 of the bill). I am sure you know how that worked out for me.....CPS will probably be no better.

Of course everyone here knows that a good chunk of the City of San Antonio budget income comes from CPS...

But, that is not a tax..right?

Don't remember voting for a tax hike?...

CPS increase charges..

THAT IS A TAX HIKE, we never got to vote on it, and the politicians never took any heat for it! (displacement of responsibility, "fees", the new "American Way") :angry

Um . . . everything increases in price, not just taxes. Cable bill goes up every 6 months, phone bill goes up every year with some new stupid fee, gas prices go up, etc, etc. No matter what kind of business it is, operational expenses tend to increase every year and when it something like producing electricity that depends on a commodity - COAL/NATURAL GAS/NUCLEAR - the price fluctuates, usually going up as demand increases and supply decreases. No tax rate increase, just a fact of life. Part of the increase also is due to greater emission controls/restrictions that add to the operating costs of the plants.

CPS built a new state of the art natural gas power plant at Braunig Lake (my uncle trained to run it) as it is much cleaner for the environement than burning coal. Only issue is that natural gas now costs so much more than coal it has never gone into full production.

I made a post concerning the power outage issues and presented solutions
