There has been a great deal of discussion lately regarding what the members (Web and Charter) of MAAST would like to see the BOD concentrate on during the year. These recommendations cover a VERY broad range of subjects, and we have attempted to extract the following list from recent discussion topics. There are likely many that were missed, but this seems to represent the more common suggestions, as well as topics the BOD is currently considering.

The next BOD meeting is in approximately two weeks, and we are looking for some feedback on the most popular recommendations.

So ... in this Link to the Opinion Poll (http://www.maast.org/index.php?module=advanced_polls&func=display&polli d=17) we would like our members to select the "Top Ten" items you would like to see the MAAST BOD concentrate on in 2006. For your reference, the 35 items in the poll are also listed below.

ALSO: These activities require member support, so please post to this thread if you are willing to champion one of these activities (Please identify by number). The BOD and Commitees are here to assist, but need members to head up most of these activities.

Items in the Opinion Poll (http://www.maast.org/index.php?module=advanced_polls&func=display&polli d=17) are:
1. Speakers/Workshops for Meetings
2. Increased Sponsorships
3. MAAST Coral Propagation
4. Online Tank Diaries
5. MAAST Newsletter
6. Dated (365 day) membership
7. Organized Trips (Zoo, SeaWorld, Port-A)
8. Target S.A. MACNA in 2008-10

10. Detailed Financial Status/Budgets
11. Improved raffle Items
12. Organized Social events (Dinners, BBQ)
13. Online Raffles
14. Multi-Speaker Event
15. Maintain Nest egg for MACNA
16. NewB Mentor Program
17. Online Reference Library
18. Taxes and non-profit status
19. Special Events/Speakers
20. Meetings at non-S.A. Locations
21. Educational outreach (Pub Schools)
22. Tank Tours
23. Online contests/prizes
24. Large Group Orders
25. Improved Door Prizes
26. Cooperative events with other clubs
27. Online calculators

OK I'll go first... Being down in Corpus I think the amount I can help is limited by I'll step up for:
9. New MAAST T-Shirts
I can help with; but don't think I could handle on my own
5. MAAST Newsletter
32. New Software/Hosting for WebSite
33. WebSite Moderation

They all sound fantastic! It's hard to choose....

Maast coral propogation

Organized Trips

Online Prizes and/or raffles (maybe "prizes" for members and "raffles" for non-members...same prize just non-members pay for a chance)

Mentor program

Online reference library

Frag Swaps

DIY workshops

Meetings at non-SA locations (I can help with the ones in Austin. Hopefully, I could team up with another Austin-ite or 2)

Speakers/Workshops for meetings

Educational Outreach (when I learn more, I would do this)

We don't necessarily need "experts" for educational outreach. You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting an expert on some topic or another. What we need are folks willing to help out with the organizational side of things. Besides Angela, you are an expert to the folks that we are going to be trying to reach through outreach. These folks aren't going to be asking about physics or chemistry of reef keeping. I would expect questions more along the lines of, "Can I have tank to keep Nemo and Dori?" :)

I'm down to head up another frag swap. I thought we had really good success with the last one I held in Austin but would like to increase its size and incorporate everyone in the SA area. I'd also really like to do some fragging demonstrations.

I would be willing to help with a newsletter with DIY articles included. We could take pictures and scan the article and make it available online in pdf format. My spelling and sentence strucure suxs :w00t but my heart is in NaClH2O fish and corals. Also I convert to pdf files no problem.

Thanks!

I didn't see anything that said anything about trying to return the meetings to the Austin area. I can't make that 2 1/2 hr drive ALL the time. I promp for a meeting in Lampasas. LOL!

Steve. We are working on that. We have a meeting scheduled at Polkster's house in Rio Lago in June. Is that better?

Yeah, Gary, that's closer but how come I can't volunteer my house?

Steve,

Just contact SBReef. He is our meeting coordinator. I'm sure he would be more then happy to have another Austin area volunteer, That seems to be the biggest problem, finding someone to volunteer to host a meeting. We had a couple of members that we could always count on to host a meeting. Unfortunately most of them are no longer active, have moved, or have gotten out of the hobby.

Do you think folks from Austin would be willing to travel to Lampasas?

I'd go to Lampasas just as easily as I go to SA. As I think Gary wrote on the other post, the thing that is discouraging is that no one here is chiming in to help or even expressing INTEREST! When I did the frag swap a month ago, I was very very afraid it would just be me sitting there trying to explain to 2 other people, who no one else came. Where is everyone?

Man that would be great!

I would definitley go to that one.

IMO South Padre is the closest thing ( in Texas ) to where I grew up. ( south Florida )

I voted :)

Oh, and not because of MattK, but because of the current BOD's taking the opportunity to ask what ALL members would like to see the club focus on.

Chris,

Thanks for your input. It is truly appreciated, especially since you are one of the few members that has been around since the beginning of MAAST.

Wow, it's been a while since I've been on here to take a look at the results so far. Great that we are getting input but come on folks, now is your time to speak up and let us know what you want out of this club. Keep em coming. ;)

Thanks to all that have taken the time to vote.

Ok, so the number of participants is poor considering this is open to all Web and Charter members <_<

The next BOD meeting is this weekend, and plans were to evaluate our priorities using input from this opinion poll.

We have 39 members that have responded to this Opinion poll so far, we have 134 Charters and probably 200 or so Web members. :huh

I also added a little poll to this thread just in case you would like to tell us more about your voting status/preference ;)

Lampasas is just about as far as SA, maybe a little closer for me, just the opposite direction. We're building a new house next year and when it's done, I'd be glad to hose...I mean host meetings (I really made that typo, but chose not to correct it since it's probably a Freudian slip).

How many people usually show up to meetings in Austin? I may be able to offer my office in North Austin (Parmer/Mopac area) but it's not huge.
