View Full Version : clowns hosting?

So I know which clowns pair up most likely with what anemones...the problem is more complicated than that..here is the issue.

Ive got a true perc...adorable as all get out. I want to give him a home. Ive also got butterflys (nevermind what type), that will snack on the more defenseless anemones like the RBT and LTAs. Obviously a carpet would be able to 'defend' itslef against the butts but it would be able to eat my goby's and helfrichs fire fish. So unless you know of a magic trick anemones are out.

I know they will host in a wide range of LPS too...also food for the butts and not the best for the corals either.

So, my only option is toxic softies.... leathers.

This is my question...if you have a true perc and it is hosting something other than an anemone or LPS (ie frogspwan, plate, torch etc) what is it?

I want to put a leather in their that will give me the BEST POSSIBLE chances for pairing them up. So Im asking for your recomendations to give me a chance...lol.

Thanks
Christina

Look down in my sig at my 125g link and you will see my two percs hosting and laying eggs in my green hairy mushrooms.

They love them things and I would not even be able to evict them with anything less than a court order. And that might not work!

My clarks took right to the sarcophyton toadstool. One of them only comes out to eat, and the toadstool is very happy too! I have heard that these are one of the best bets for hosting--it worked for me.

A clam may work. But some butterflies will bother clams.

My pair of percula clowns host in my xenia. It is kind of frustrating because they NEVER leave the xena. It was cool at first when they started to host in my Tunze, then the meat coral, but this xenia is bad because they can hide in it. I wish they were still free swimming. :(

Fireeater...nice tank! I might try to throw some hairy mushrooms in there.

Angela- yeah I was thinking a toadstool too...but wanted to see what my other options were.

Jim- that is the coolest relationship Ive seen!..but then again you are notorious for having all the luck ;) But yeah I drop clams and mussels from HEB in there for my snowflake (I just like to watch him do him death roll..lol) and hopefully get my butts to eat it too. So far 1 of 2 does. So Im guessing no on the clam..unfortunately.

Thunderkat- xenia would be cool..I love that stuff. Ive got a piece in there right now to see if the other fish will leave it alone...so far so good..but I want to give it awhile.

Thanks guys!
keep em coming.

Check with Sherri. I think she has a pair of Black Percs hosting in a Colt Coral.

They really like smoth, slimy things.... Brains, xenia, clams, mushrooms. I had a pair in anethilia. Which in like non-pumping xenia. I'm seeing a trend. Let us know what works for your guys.

My clarkii has started staying in some zoos, and you guessed it, the zoos have started disappearing.
