I have this tank and it drains in the back corrner through a 1 inch drain.
The problem is that it makes so much noise. Does any one have a sugestion on how to silence it. It's not just the water fall noise but is sounds like a bathtub drain only it is 10 X louder. Any help would be great

You ned to build or buy a "durso standpipe", do a google search and you should get all the info you need. If not, we can go into more detail here.

Look you can do it in 4 minutes seriously... Take a 1" pvc coupler cut it out to look like a large crown with say 4 or 5 spikes on the crown. Take a 2 or 3" PVC cap drill a hole in the center...place on top. My venturi is just about the loudest thing on my system right now.

you put the cap over the crown, the hole is to let air in so it doesn't make a sucking noise and gurlge flushes. So PVC/Crown/Cap with hole in top. Just make sure your slots are not any deeper then the cap can cover. So if the cap is 1" deep cut your crown slots 3/4" deep.

that will work, but the water level will still be very low in the overflow. make your own durso. there are lots of places online for DIY durso, but it is really simple. use PVC that is larger than your bulkhead (ie, if the inside of your bulkhead is 1", then use 1.25" PVC). cut a piece of pipe about 2/3 the height of your overflow. on top of that, put a "T" facing sideways so that it connects to the pipe and has an outlet directly above the pipe and one to the side. on the side outlet, add a 90 deg elbow facing down and on the top add a cap with a hole ( i drilled a 1/4 " hole in mine). here is a pic of mine out of the tank. all you need is a slip fitting that will fit the durso you make and screw into or slip into your bulkhead (dont know what kind of bulkhead you have). dont glue any of the fittings on the durso or to the bulkhead.

Now this is useful! I just thought I was stuck with that loud noise!
This will be my next week project :D

Jill, I would go with Ace's suggestion about getting the PVC bigger than the overflows bulkhead. When I first made mine I used smaller pvc and the syphon wasnt keeping up with the return pump. My tank overflowed but luckily I caught in time.

The water level is determined on how low the slits in the PVC are. I don't have my water level in my overflow more then 1" under the water line. here's a very crude drawing. The coupling will be larger ID then the pipe so it can fit over it like a coupler does. Trust me I don't have any bulky piping in there, I can pull the cap in 1 second to get at any hair algea or other stuff clogging it. Trust me this is 100....basically it's same principle as the Durso, just applied differently.
