I have had good luck with crocea clams so ordered a 7" gigas clam today.
I havent read anything about special care for these guys but figured would ask if anyone has tips or opinions on them? Anyone here keep them in their tanks?

Mine is a few inched from touching the front and back of the glass (24" tank so clam is about 18" front to back). Clams that big do not need too much. I do not do anything special for it except the high calcium level and it just keeps growing.

COMPLETELY off topic....but...You're from Andrews??

I lived in Pecos from 81 to 89. LOVED going to Big Bend, Davis Mountains, Monahans sand dunes, etc etc. Pecos itself is an armpit :sick ...but the land around was great! Do you know anyone from Pecos?

Angela,

I think bprewit has left us for other cyber locales. I have actually been to Pecos. I lived in Midland.

Gigas clams go on the bottom of the tank, require less light than a crocea and need LOTS of calcium.
Here is a picture of one I had which is now at Seaworld San Antonio. He is over 2 1/2 feet!

Awesome clam Jim. I need to build a bigger tank if I am going to keep mine much longer.

Very, very impressive indeed. To have something out-grow your tank, well that shows the level of skill you possess and how far husbandry has come. Kudos!
