First of all, I would like to aplogize to the MAAST Community that I have not posted this sooner. I have been VERY busy with my family life and work has been so busy, that I can not do much at work anymore.
Now that things have settled down a little with my family life, I should be able to get a few things done in the evenings now, hopefully.
I do have a list for the next few months of meeting location and some topics, that I will post in the next few days, and I will try to keep it updated as the months get closer.

The March 2006 MAAST Meeting will be held at the Indian Hills Pavillion, Spring Branch, Texas

Directions:
From San Antonio, 281 N past the Spring Branch Store to Rebecca Creek Rd
From Austin, 281 S past Hwy 306 (North Entrance to Canyon Lake) to Rebecca Creek Rd.
From IH-35, from the northside of Canyon Lake, you can take Hwy 306 (North Entrance to Canyon Lake) to Hwy 281 then take a left, south bound.
Or from the southside of Canyon Lake, take Hwy 46 to 281 then take a right, north bound.
You will see a "Golf Ball", North bound right side, south bound left side. That is Rebecca Creek Road. It is the entrance to Rayner Ranch, the old Rebecca Creek Country Club and Golf course. The first paved street on the left is Broken Arrow, Left on Broken Arrow.
Follow Broken Arrow until you get to Apache Moon. Right on Apache Mon. The very next right is the entrance to the community park. Follow it down. You will see a cinder Block Building and the pool. NOTE: The pool WILL NOT BE OPEN.

Sunday March 26 @ 2pm

This will be a frag, equipment and flea market event.

I will Post Topic, if one will be given.

I will post prizes when I receive the list.

what is the topic(s) that will be discussed?

you should let regular people win door prizes also.. even if we have to pay (but not dues!)

I'm curious, how DOES one have 723 posts, and yet feel that this place isn't worth $25?

satx-94integraLS
Thu, 16th Mar 2006, 05:34 PM
well, MAAST certainly could make more money by allowing people to buy into the door prizes.. which would net MAAST more money than if i were to sponsor and pay 25$ once.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand. How does one go to meetings, but not join? You may have your reasons for not joining, but why go to the meetings if you aren't a member? Has this website saved/made you $25 or more? If so, get off the fence. If you have reasons NOT to join, then post your "car for sale" ad elsewhere.

As for the door prizes for members - THAT'S one of the reasons to join. Personally, I'd like to see the raffles for members only.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand.

no one asked you to understand.

the non-aquarium fs forum is available for everyone to use. if you have a problem with this, take it up with the bod's.

have a nice day! :)

Their should be rewards for being a paying charter member that web members cant 'get.' Charter members PAY for this site (hosting fees etc are not free), the snacks you eat at meetings, things like a storage room to hold all the 'prizes' in...things people dont see but keep MAAST running smoothly...all of which cost money.

If you are a web member, seriously think about becoming a charter. The amount of info you learn here alone will make your $25 back when you're able to walk into a store and intelligently buy what you NEED, not what the LFS thinks you need. Not to mention all the equipment you can save money on in the FS forums and the 10% off at sponsors.

Thats just my 2cents. ;)

Back on topic...

The more people the better....this could really be a great meeting and opportunity! If you have friends, or you yourself are new to the hobby DONT MISS THIS! It will be a chance to get equipment for a fraction of the retail costs. Not to mention the frags!!

How long of a drive is it from Austin? (I'm in N. Austin, Parmer-Mopac area.

P.S. I plan on becoming a charter member soon or at the next MAAST event I can make it to.

Roy lives about 45 min. north of downtown SA., right off of 281. If you have ever driven to SA that way, subtract 45 min. Its real pretty up that way right now. A nice drive. The wildflowers are coming out in the hills.

How I would drive it from Austin would be 290 to FM 165, which brings you into Blanco. In Blanco, take 281 south. Roys's about 15 min. south of Blanco. 165 is a real pretty back road and cuts the corner from 290 to 281 and saves you about 20-30 min. It brings you to 281 in Blanco, right at the courthouse. The bowling alley in Blanco is a great place to stop for lunch too. Their pies are awesome. If you are interested in taking a nice little day trip, this would be an excellent one to make.

Thanks Gary (boy it seems like I say that a lot here :)) for the detailed directions. It so happens that my husband and I are going to SA for a weekend on the riverwalk this weekend. We'll probably take that route today and check out the scenery, instead of boring I-35.

Bill S
Fri, 17th Mar 2006, 10:22 AM
I ALWAYS take that route. Unlike I-35, it's a known entity. It takes about 10 minutes more, but, you will know when you will get there. Who knows what kind of mess you might run into on 35 with construction. BTW, Oso's Mexican is also good.

GaryP
Fri, 17th Mar 2006, 12:00 PM
Yea, I have eaten at Oso's too. A nice view of the river. Another thing I have done when going that way is to skip over to Blanco Rd. on Hwy. 46 instead of hitting all the lights on 281. Of course that makes me drive right in front of CB's. A good place to make a pit stop. If I could just get Richard and Mark to put in a cold drink cooler it would be perfect.

Well, with all this talk about Blanco, Texas and CB Pets, Remember everyone, I live 10 minutes from CB. So, if you are from Austin and coming to the meeting, CB is just down the road from me. And if you have not been there before, it will be worth the trip.

Looking forward to the meeting! ^_^ Is there any way I can get an idea of what some are bringing?

My wish list:

Coraline algae...or live rock/rubble to jump start my coraline again.

48" light for 75 gallon tank with softies and LPS (I prefer something I could set on top of my eggcrate if possible)

Pumps.. I could use a couple of maxi jet 1200 or equal

HOT fuge (or large filter I could use as one)

Ricordia, zoos, mushrooms, leathers

Janitors (red and blue leg hermits, nerite snails, cerith snails, mini stars)

Fish: hippo tang, coral beauty, copper band butterfly

Inverts: cleaner and peppermint shrimp

Beneficial algae (already have some chaeto, but other algae that is safe in tank would be great)

If you will have any of these available, I would appreciate a pm. ;)

Thanks, guys! See you there!

My wife and I plan to come up for the meeting. We will drive up Friday evening or early Sat. morning and stay for the meeting on Sun. I would really like to do a tank tour. I have seen pictures of so many awsome tanks on the MAAST site and I would love to see them in person. Let me know if anyone would be available to show their tanks on Sat or Sun. gjuarez (Jerry) may come also. We're trying to get some of the members from the Rio Grande Valley to go.
I also want to stop at a couple of the shops while I'm there and pick up some fish and coral.
I'm trying to buy some Weldon for acrylic, unfortunately Regal plastics is not open on Sat. Is there any other place in SA that sells Weldon that's open on Sat.?

Rick,

I bet someone lives near Regal that can pick it up for you. You are welcome to come by and look at my tanks if you like. They are not as spectacular as some here and definitely low tech, but you are welcome anyway.

Marlin

Thanks for the invites. I would appreciate directions from anyone that would be willing to have us over to see their tanks.
Also, would anyone be willing to pick up some Weldon for me and I will pay you at the meeting or send a check in advance. I would like a can of #4 and #16. I don't know what size containers it comes in, but a pint of each would be fine.

Richard:
I would like to try the Coral Stimulator. Does it have to be kept refrigerated or just after it's been opened? Would I be able to buy it on Sat. and not refrigerate it until I get home late Sun. night?

Rick there is also Allied Plastic here in SA. They are real close to each other. One used to be open on Saturday and one wasn't. I will be happy to check on it tomorrow. If neither is open I will try to get by and pick some up for you. It is a cross country trip but I need an excuse to go. :D Weldon #4 is sold in cans and #16 is sold in a tube. I will let you know what I found out tomorrow. Hope this helps you out.

Allied is open on Saturdays. I think they close at 11:00, though. Just in case anyone was wondering, Allied does NOT have a scrap bin like Regal does. So, if you need some acrylic, too, you'd better go to Regal.

My wife and I had a great time at the meeting. It was nice to meet everyone. I even won one of the door prizes.
Thanks to everyone that graciously welcomed us into their homes to see their awsome tanks. I learned a lot that I will apply to improving my own tanks.
