So I had to shut down my closed loop because the oceans motions got some FOD. (Foriegn Object Damage) to the the drum. A new one came in today so I sat down to start working on getting the screw I snapped off out.

(nylong bolt, drilling a line accross what's left so I can just un-screw it.)

Anyhow, when I opened up the oceans motions I noticed a rotten egg smell. I am wondernig if that will be the case with all the water in the closed loop, or just the water inbetween all my shutoff valves that is isolated from the rest of the tank.

Do you guys think it's safe for me to just fix it and start the system back up with this water? or should I try and remove it some how?

my gut says it's only a couple gallons of water in the pipes, and it's 150 gallons of water in the system... dillution will make it a non-issue and all the nastyness will be processed in short order by the liverock.

your thoughts?

yeah, I do not handle odors well at all and almost had to make a run to worship Camodicus for a minute... gag me.

I would try to drain it or siphon it out. It will be smelly.
Or run some carbon.
It will smell like you just ate 5 expired burritos that have been sitting in the hot texas sun for 2 months. Nuf Said. LOL.

I would just "let 'er rip" (as they say :lol)

That sulfur will literally "out gas" almost immediately, run carbon if not already.

I have several pipes in my system that sit unused at times and get "smelly", I've never had any problems.

Steve is probably right. Stinky but probably would not be a problem.
