I currently have a 29g tall that I am using as a sump and would like to purchase a 5.5g to use as a fuge. I don't have much space left beneath my tank to place a fuge next to the 29 but I think I may have enough vertical space.
1) Does anyone know if it would be safe to drill a 5.5g tank.
2) Does anyone know if I it would be "safe" to place the 5.5g tank on top perpendicular to the 29.

I am planning on adding a "T" to my return along with some sort of ball or gate valve to redirect flow into the fuge. I don't think I can add a "T" to the drain because it is already set up using PVC and I don't want to have to mess with the PVC too much. My return is being fed through some acrylic tubing so that is why I figure it would be easier to add a "T" at that part of the plumbing.

As long as it is stable and wont get knocked off the 29g it will be ok. As far as drilling it I dont see a problem plus if you break it your out what $12 bucks or so. Just if you drill it go slow and let the drill do the work and keep it wet with water. I drill my breeder and taped the water hose to the tank to run clean fresh water over the areas to be drilled I had no problems drill mine. HTH
