I am an aquaculture teacher here in San Antonio. My class primarily focuses on freshwater culture and production, but I would like to introduce the students to Marine set-ups. I know that Hobogoto is a teacher at the same school, but his conference period does not line up with my aquaculture class.

If there are any local "experts", vendors, or anyone who would want to talk to a high school class of 20 or so about saltwater set-ups etc. please drop me a line. The class begins at 10:30 am and lasts for an hour and a half.

We plan to set-up a saltwater aquarium in the new building we are getting. Any information you could provide would be great. Let me know when you are available and I we can get something together.

Thanks,
Joshua Anderson

What school are you at?

I'm sure there will be a bunch of 'experts' here that could help. ;)

Joshua,

Ace has spoken to me about you. Welcome to MAAST. Your program is exactly the type pf thing that we would like our Education group to get involved in. I'll PM you my phone numbers. Give me a call and we'll see what we can do to help you out.

Not trying to take away from MAAST but your County Extension Agent will have information on Fresh water information. They have curriculum enrichment opportunities that are TEA certified and TEKS alligned as well.
As far a salt water you are in the right spot for information.

Josh, as Gary said earlier, this is EXACTLY the type of community education MAAST wants to support. If you need anything or have questions don't hesitate to PM or EMail me!

Thanks for the opportunity!

P.S. Please feel free to let others know in the SA K-12 education community that we are here!

Looking to have someone speak about different options when setting up a tank...starting with the easiest to raise and then moving to some of the more difficult. I will be getting with Hobogoto to see when he can cover the basics with them first. We may even be looking to find a local sponosr for a quick tour of their facilities.

Fin Addict is just down the street from you. He is doing some captive propagation of corals.

If you are interested in a little more extensive aquaculture trip, we have a member that breeds clown fish, berghia nudibranches, and is getting started in coral propagation as well as trying to get marine angelfish to beed. He is located in Floresville so that would be a little more difficult field trip to arrange.

Also, we could possibly put you in contact with our contacts at the zoo and Sea World for behind the scenes tours.
