I am considering getting a foxface for my tank...I have a bit of hair algae and find them beautiful as well.
I have a 75gal with CBB, 1pair occ clowns, 1 mandarin goby, 2 cleaner shrimp and some soft corals.
Has anyone had a problem with them poisoning the tank? Other concerns? :unsure

Oh, and what's the best detritus eater that would work in my tank?---one that will eat it off of rocks too.

lawnmower blennies do a good job on the rocks and everywhere.

I was considering a lawn mower, but do you think he might not get along with the dragonet since they are similar looking?

also with a blenny if you have clams on your sandbed they are a pain in the *** because of kicking up all the sand all the time...

We have a foxface lo in our tank and have had no problems. They're peaceful and eat our bubble algae like a champ. I would recommend one (and don't worry if you put one in your tank and they flip out and change color for a while, it's what they do until they get used to the new settings.)

i have a mandarin in with my lawnmower and they really dont seem to even notice each other. the blennie likes to dance and the mandarin is more interested in his reflection. in fact the blennie has always behaved like it is the only fish in the aquarium. very entertaining fish. probably our favorite.

I agree! I need to up the flow in my tank. I have 2 powerheads that are supposed to be 500gph each. (Not sure if that is actually happening. ) What powerheads do I need? (75 gal tank) Would it help if I brought the powerheads lower in the tank? They are mainly at the top.
My son really likes the blenny...actually, we all like the blenny AND the foxface...or maybe blue tang? Still doing research. Which eats hair algae better: foxface, blue tang, yellow tang...other? I know I should only have one tang, but will I be overstocking to add a tang or foxface and a blenny? Foxfaces and tangs don't get along do they...plus that is a lot of big fish for my tank.
My son is watching me type and wanted me to add this :ph34r

What kind of powerheads do you have that are 500 gallons each?
You can't go wrong with Tunze streams but they cost a bit. Not really that bad though when you consider how many other powerheads it takes to equall a stream.
Maxijets are good but not high flow.
Hagen/Fluval makes some nice powerheads to. But I haven't used them much.
IME just stay away from Rio's. They suck.
Seio makes cheaper stream knock offs. Never used them so I can't comment on quality. They are made by the same company as rios so I have just stayed away from them.

Flow really depends on what your intention for the tank is. Tunze's are great, but not really necessary if you aren't doing SPS.
Detritivores: Nassarius snails, hermits, brittle stars, and Ctenochaetus tangs (Bristletooth, Kole & Chevron).
I have a foxface in both my tanks in both of my tanks and never had a problem with them. They are actually pretty shy. They'll flare their fins when they are threatened.
Hair algae: Dwarf Hermits (Clibanarius digueti), Cerith snails (Cerithium strercusmuscarum), Nerite snails (Nerita funiculata). The surgeon tangs will graze on hair algae, but not necessarily down to the rock the way that snails and hermits do.

Well, I bought my foxface. She is beautiful, but I haven't seen her eat any hair algae. She swims back and forth in the tank pretty quickly. Ph is 8.2 Alk in the "normal" range. no ammonia, sp grav 1.022. Everyone else seems fine. Does she just need time to adjust, or did I get one that doesn't like hair algae? :unsure

They can be pretty shy for a couple days after being moved. Paitence.

I have a Tunze 6060 in my main tank, WAY too much flow for it. I ordered two maxijets and a mag drive (return from my fuge/sump) to replace that tunze. My xenia, zoos, mushrooms, and gsp have requested a lower flow :lol
