I have the 12 gallon aquapod and wanted to grow some chaetomorpha in one of the chambers in the back. I ordered a waterproof LED light cluster from eBay. Ebay item #4402842731...there's plenty available and they're only 6.99! I used an old multi adapter set to 12 volts and clipped the end so I could attach it to the led's wires. I got some velcro from Hobby Lobby that has the adhesive on both sides. I put one side over the chamber and the other side obviously to the top of the light. This way I could just take it out incase I didn't like it. I threw a small handful of chaeto back there and only about a week later, the chamber is full! The stuff is growing quite well and I have a nice pod population. I must give credit to Louis over at Aquatic Warehouse since he gave me the idea. Thanks Louis. LED's rock!

your forgetting the most important part Jap!!! PICTURES!!!!!

I would love to see a really tiny NANO lit by nothing more than a brick of LED's.

This really intruiged me so I found a thread on it over at nano-reef.com and those guys are insane! They have some LED arrays built for nanos with hundreds of high intensity LED's providing 3 - 4 times as much light off as a power compact.

Daddy Like.

I VERY much want to build one of these tanks but I promised my wife I would stick with the cube.

But I have found a loop hole. Nieces and Nephews... I must spread the addiction. sadly, they will probably have to be fresh water tanks.

That'd be so cool to use LED's for your main lighting. I wish they would become mainstream because the advantages are so great. They put out almost no heat, they barely use any power, they're dirt cheap, and they last somewhere around a million hours. I bet LED's could be an easy replacement for PC's, but I'm sure the industry doen't want to do it because the PC's are too big of a money maker for them.

man have you ever touched a high candel power LED. I can assure you they get hot!

No, I haven't. I use the "super-white" led's. 8 of them put together. Mine run pretty cool. But I'm assuming they're not really high candle power like the ones you're refering to. I wonder if it depends on the voltage you run through them. Even if they are hot, would they be as hot as PC's or MH's?

Did you put it in the sump area? The area that has your pump and heater? Does Chaeto stay in a clump or does it get pumped into your aquarium?

I've been following the threads about LED for some time. My question is are they really more efficient? Seems that you need about a hundred 5w units to make a good sized light , wait that sounds like my 2x 250w MH's..........

Any of you got to MACNA? They had a Solaris demo there. I'm not impressed. They will NEVER replace MH. They may replace pc but that's about it. I'm not willing to risk MY Acros but if anyone is willing to donate theirs, I'm up for experimentation? :angel :innocent :skeezy :shades
