well not really an emergency. our RBTA split. Twice. i came home today to triplets! i am just curious. what's up with splitting? i know it is asexual reproduction and can be induced by stress, but is this always the case or is this also an alternative form of non-stressful reproduction (if there is such a thing)??

Just be happy - you now have 3? If you have clowns hosting, sometimes they will induce it with their rough treatment. I now have 5 - and should soon be getting another split or 2.

My LTA used to split about every six months 3:1. They would also split whenever I moved my tanks, which used to happen often in those days. I had 3 LTA back then and I was always trading clones to the LFS. That was something like 18 LTA per year, so I could trade 15 just to stay even.

Is there any way besides huge water changes to try and get an anemone to slit? Mine is getting to big for the area that it is in.

Congrats on the split. Three is always better than one. 8)

i have heard feed heavy for a few days and then big water changes. also have heard some about raising the tank temp for a while and dropping it back down. personally would not like to try the latter. good luck.

Putting mine in a bag and driving to South Carolina always worked for me. Actually though, they respond to stress by splitting. Its their natural way of responding to stress. When they feel like there is a possibility they might be in danger of being killed they split to increase their chance of survival.

That is a nice article. So overfeeding and the water change seem to be the way to go if you are trying to get them sleep.

No ROAD trips for me planned near in the future.
