I used to hit Texas Tropical most of the time for drygood needs and live fish every now and then ...

Is there anywhere in town to get a good liverock selection or is ordering online the way to go?

If I remember correctly, there was a new place by the airport .... can't remember the neam .. is it still there?

The place by the airport you are referring to is Aquatic Warehouse. The best LFS in San Antoniuo is pretty subjective. Its also a question of best for what. They all have strengths. I would suggest you also check out Alamo Aquatics, Fishy Business, Fin Addict, Pets R Us, Wolf Reef, and CB Pets.

aquatic warehouse got me some NICE tonga for a cheaper price than anyone else has offered so far.

less than 6 a # :D:D

honestly, ive shopped at every store but wolf reef and cb pets. alamo CAN get nice rock in from time to time, but if its really nice looking, expect to pay upwards of 9-11 a # for it. everyone else usually charges between 2-6 a # depending on the quality of the rock.

but, IMHO, the best rock ive seen and purchased has been from louis at aquatic warehouse.

i think its a tie between him and alamo aquatics as to who has the biggest LR tank.

I like Fin-Addict myself, but Aquatic Warehouse is cool too. Still haven't been to Fishy Business, CB Pets or Pets R Us though, so I can't comment on those.

i think pets r us may have saltwater by now. when i last went by they had barely gotten their salt going and were still cycling. i have been to FB and he has good stuff also.

FA is too far from me, and like i said earlier, ive gotten the best quality AND price for rock at AW. no one in satx has been able to beat those prices, and ive visited just about every LFS, minus wolf reef, in satx.

I myself am partial to CB pets, the owners are great, they quarantine their fish, and they are always helpful (and active posters here as well)

If you were a MAAST charter member you would only have to take $90. Hint hint.

no, then i could buy up to 110$ worth of stuff for 100$!

sadly, a few choice members here have given me all the reason i need NOT to sponsor, but however, i do enjoy the site and plan on sticking around.

those choice members are why i will not attend maast meetings anymore, and a few of my friends ive made off of here agree with me 100%.

that 'other' site was and will always be a bad idea.

hmm, ok. :) to each their own I guess! :)

Satx, You will definatley have a good time at CB pets, Mark and Richard are very knowledgable guys and Tyler is quite the charachter. (assuming you go on a weekend. or in the evening.)

They have been with me every step of the way on my new aquarium, and I just can't say enough about them. The lay it out when I have stupid ideas, and they always have the right answers to my questions, and seem pretty darn comitted to making sure I succeed. (so they can take more money from me! :) )

lol, definately check them out. I take pleasure in getting co-workers addicted to their shop.

Let me make sure I am getting this right. What you and your friends are saying is that its MAAST's fault that some individuals act the way they do. The whole club is to blame for the actions of some individuals? You also are saying that you enjoy the site site but don't want to throw a few bucks in the pot to help support it? Even if you get a benefit from the memberships, such as discounts at LFS. That's kinda like saying its my fault that a politician does something wrong simply because I pay my taxes. Try explaining that one to the IRS on April 15th. I'm sure there is some logic to your opinion, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. I'm sorry, maybe I am just a little dense.

maast is not at fault. i never said that. i just said i dont feel comfortable attending meetings anymore, and that i dont feel comfortable supporting maast financially because of that.

also, i already get discounts at the stores i patronize :)

/the person(s) im referring too openly criticize maast, yet they attend their meetings and everyone who knows them knows this about them.
//yes that was confusing.

Derek, Your looking for Liverock right?

http://www.maast.org/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=17623&sta rt=90

CB has awesome liverock and the tank they keep it in is loaded with microfauna.

Those two rocks were in my tanke for 12 hours before I found the first copepod running around the tank. ;)

Everyone else, the conversation about joining MAAST and why not should probably be kept private. let's not hijack derek's thread.

I've been around for a long time guys. Just been out of the hobby for a couple years. I was a member back when this whole thing was in it's infancy. Membership requirements may have changed, so maybe I'm not anymore, but I was in the beginning, so I still consider myself as part of the group.

Soooo .... Don't worry about scaring me off. I think I would be juvenile to think that in a large/growing group of people you are not going to have those that are a bad reflection of the organization as a whole. Unfortunately, they can ruin it for some and that's just how the cookie crumbles. I know this is a very positive place in general, so these that you are talking about, whoever they are, won't ruin it for me. Keep on truckin' is what I say.

Thanks for the input. I like Aquatic Warehouse. It's convienent for me and the prices seem to be good and the livestock well taken care of. It seems many others here agree. I'm looking to get the 24 gal Aquapod w/ 70 watt HQI ... I should be able to keep some cool stuff with that set up. Trying to ease my way back in the hobby and this should be a good set up for me and my 3yr old son!

Talk to you guys soon.

I just baught alot of stuff for my new reef tank at Pets R Us, and the owner is very nice and is willing to beat or match any price that you can find. (At least with me he was, I have spent a lot of money there since he opened.)
