I finally set up my new 75 gallon tank with 4 return lines, 2 large drain lines, metal halides, cool skimmer, and my 55 gallon is now my sump/fuge.
After seeing it all set up I am very disappointed. The Dolphin Amp Master 3200 gives the perfect flow I was looking for, not weak and not too much but the pump cavitates so there are so many microbubbles you can't see into the tank when it is on. I tried many things to try to fix but I think I will just have to change out the pump.
The metal halides are not what I expected, they are bright but it seems to be very focused in two small areas with lots of shadows and shimmers compared to my 10ks on my old tank. The fish are also scared out of their minds while the halides are on, the corals seem to love it though.
I think next time I set up a new tank it will be using a Tunze to supply flow to the main tank, a mag drive pump to feed the sump/fuge with just one line for return and using an overflow box to drain. Lighting will be with 10ks, and an adjustable skimmer will be nice, the one I have now either makes dry foam or pulls out water really fast and fills up in seconds (only thing I can do to adjust it is to change the height of the skimmer or the water level).
I think I am guilty of violating the KISS policy (keep it simple stupid).
