I'm thinking he may of rubbed up against the rock but I'm not sure.
Never seen anything like it before. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. THANKS!!!!

Looks like marine velvet. Is he in quarantine?

No, just started to add fish in this tank. So not many in there now. I could though if you think I should.

He definetly needs to go to quarantine ASAP, im not sure what you should treat him with though.

I checked out that article you, Reef69, sent and it doesn't exactly look like what they described.

Maybe a fungus?

Brooklynella perhaps?

Richard knows these diseases better than I.

I am sure he will chime in here at some point?

Not a very good pic but I am guessing lymphocystis. Fairly common on imperators.

Does not look like velvet, brooklynella to me. True fungus are very rare in saltwater.

Lymphocystis is a virus so no treatment for that. Just feed well and keep the water quality high. It does not spread to other fish if they are healthy.

Thanks Richard, I owe you one. And I thought it didn't look like velvet. Anyways, I'll keep an eye on it.

Tell your dad to do a good size water change. Sometimes that seems to get their immune system into gear to fight the virus.

Also, I would add a cleaner shrimp (if he doesn't have one already, I don't remember). They will pick at it and this can also stimulate the fishes immune system to start fighting the infection. Kinda like giving their immune system a kick in the butt.

Richard,

Is this this the same virus that new butterflies often get? I had a CBB with it, and it went away after a while. I just fed him as much as he would eat.

Gary-I know that often CBB will get/have Lympho when they first arrive.
It typically goes away pretty quickly if water quality is very good and if you can keep mr. cbb fat and happy.

Afew years ago I had an angle that got something simular to that it would get every couple of weeks and go away Never got it in the summertime. I found out that it was going between my heater and the tank glass and would get a slight burn. Barry

Yeah, IME the fish that get it the most are butterflies, B&W heniochus get it ALOT, full size angels especially imperators & koran angels, and chalk basslets. Although any fish can get it these are the ones it is fairly common on after the stress of collection & shipping.

If it is just on the fins of the fish then they tend to get over it fairly easily. When it affects the body or mouth of the fish it is a more serious problem which is why I am suggesting a more aggressive approach with this fish (big water changes & the cleaner shrimp).

Megan - the one thing I notice on the pic is on the right side of the pic it looks like red cyanobacteria film on the glass (unless that is just a glare). If you are still having cyano problems the that would indicate that there are still some water quality issues (no matter what the test kits say) so that needs to get fixed to increase this guys chances of surviving.

Richard, that's a glare. Only my puffer tank has that problem. Which the coral food already seems to be helping after only two doses. My dad's 215 is doing great in that area. In fact, I did a water change on mine last night and usually it comes back by morning and it's not so far. Keep my fingers crossed.
But I will tell my dad to do a water change and then I'll test the chemicals. And we don't have a shrimp in there yet. I'll talk to him about that too. I might stop by and pick one up today if I have time.
Thanks!!!
